Moreover, the takeover has provided legislators with a long-sought ability to influence the mortgage marketplace directly and pursue social goals like low-income housing.

...And lawmakers of all stripes are quietly voicing worries that government involvement in the mortgage industry could lead to the very problems that caused the current crisis.

Keep in mind--this is the NYT saying this.

Shut them both down. Rahm and Gorelnick plus raines and others looted both of them. They should all be in jail.

This is unconscionable. Politicians use Fannie and Freddie as their own personal piggy bank and as a political tool. WHAT A JOKE!

Congress is such a failure. Holding hearings on baseball players who took drugs, and giving them selves a pass for destroying a financial system.

Shut them DOWN. In a perfect world, Rahm, Gorelick, Raines, Frank, and Dodd would be in the dock.

Regarding your tagline, as an automation engineer I am boycotting GE, sending as much business as possible to Allen Bradley - good conservative company (are you reading this Stamford CT?)

The Dems won’t need Fannie and Freddie anymore — they will have nationalized banks to give them political donations for their corrupt designs.

Good man (or woman ;-) ).

GE is a really slimy company. I know Docs who tried to buy their MRIs and they said they are slimy. I almost bought a office building with some people owned by GE and they were nasty jerks. Real creeps and incredibly arrogant.

It really is stunning. I just keep wondering how long the lib/dems who want us to “give Obama a chance” want to go before they open their eyes to see the destruction of the nation. Do we wait until there is no Christmas because people are jumping out of windows, threatening their mortgage holders with home destruction, and roving gangs of unemployed high school drop outs are looting largely closed down businesses and warehouses?

'Restored'?!? They never were 'private'. They were bought-and-paid-for, wholly-owned subsidiaries of Dodd, Fwank, & Co. They were clearinghouses for the least-capable, least-motivated, lowest common denominators of society to get (in exchange for subservience on the liberal plantation) absurdly-termed loans to 'buy' homes for which hard-working Americans wiliingly bust their asses for, or even dare daydream about without feeling 'guilty' or 'selfish'.

God damn liberals and their dull-witted sychophants to Hell. May a Tenth Circle be created just for their Eternal Incineration.

They should all be in jail.

Don't forget the Clinton crime family.....I only hope I live to see them all brought to justice. Ceauşescu, anyone?

These organizations started out as programs under the control of federal agencies.

The government maintained elements of control. On a pretty regular basis thieves and charletons were appointed to head up the agencies.

As usual thieves stole and charletons allowed their friends to steal.

This is a loss? To who? To what?

Seems to be a prerequisite to work for G.E.

FDR’s “New Deal” continues on giving -— Fannie Mae was created by FDR back in 1938.
