FREDERICK, Md. (AP) - Frederick police say four tons of fertilizer have been stolen from a farm supply store.

The fertilizer disappeared from the Southern States store in the 500 block of East South Street in Frederick some time Saturday night or early Sunday.

A store representative told police that 2,000 pounds of urea and 6,000 pounds of other fertilizer are missing. The fertilizer was in white 50-pound bags with a company logo.

Lt. Clark Pennington says they don't know what the motive behind the theft is, but they have notified the Maryland Coordination Analysis Center, which alerts all federal agencies of the theft.

I am sure they track large purchases.

Now wait just a minute. AFAIK urea is not useful as an explosive in it’s fertilizer state (usually Prills), the “other” fertilizer is what’s of concern, IF it’s Ammonium Nitrate. But as far as this article goes, it could be 3 tons of Zoo Doo “fertilizer”.

Why call attention to yourself stealing the stuff when it's sort of cheap?"

Thugs do not believe in paying for things. Or perhaps, because they want the attention?

You can't make a bomb directly starting with urea. You need other chemicals in large quantity to make explosives with urea as the start.

Ammonium nitrate is a bit different. ANFO or ANIS is well known in the improvised explosives field.

Neither an AN bomb or urea-based device will go off without a booster, it's not “cap sensitive”.

The most likely reason for the theft is fertilizing fields.

good reasoning; however, a cheaper alternative for someone who just needs fertilizer for his farm is to follow Algore's global warming circuit and pick up all the crap he leaves behind.

Perhaps because whoever stole it wouldn’t be allowed to buy it. I believe there are controls on fertilizer now, must sign for it or something.

Too soon, people, too soon.

I’m worried that folks won’t wait for the state level 10th amendment legislative process to play itself out before doing something rash...

"It could be that someone really just stole this fertilizer to either sell or use."

Or to make a lot of bombs to go off simutamuously.

Careful, too, that the people stopping you ARE LEOs...

In the Turner Diaries, from which McVeigh got this idea, they hijacked a delivery truck and killed the driver.

Not good. I am one of those people who believe that the Oklahoma bombing had some ROP types involved. If I were living in the DC area and I knew that Obama was out of town, I might be sleeping even less than I have been sleeping since his election.

If this “stuff” is so dangerous I need to start paying a lot more attention when I am on the potty!

John Doe #2 looked a lot like the “20th hijacker” in the police drawings.

More likely it's just good old fashoined grand theft.

Anyone clever enough to process Urea into Urea Nitrate would have no use for the Potash or Phosphate fertilizers.

Yep..I believe McVeigh had some ROP help as well. I would not want to be in that region of the country now that Obama is in charge. They can’t even bring themselves to utter the word: ‘terrorist’ or ‘terrorism’.
