UK: Minority groups to get extra Government help to protect them from the recession

Ethnic minorities could receive extra help during the recession following Government fears they will be hardest hit as the economy deteriorates.

Work and Pensions Secretary James Purnell announced a controversial drive to ensure ethnic minority workers are not  'left behind'.

He warned that employment levels amongst ethnic minorities fell by ten percentage points in the 1990s recession, more than other groups.

Mr Purnell, announcing the initiative in a speech to Labour's Black Asian and Minority Ethnic annual general meeting in Leicester, said it was vital to ensure the mistakes of previous recessions were not repeated.

'In the past too many were left behind in bad times. Ethnic minority workers suffered most in the Tory recessions,' he said.

'Employment levels amongst ethnic minority workers fell by 10 percentage points in the 1990s recession - much worse than rest of the country.

'Just think of the waste of human potential. Whole communities were abandoned, families where no one then worked for generations.'

But the Government's focus on minorities drew criticism from Conservative MPs, who warned it risked entrenching division.

How is this any different from race based discrimination?

No difference whatsoever.  If somebody had said "far more white-owned businesses are suffering from the economic downturn than minority-owned businesses...we need to give special help to those white businesses" he would have been tarred and feathered in the village square and his home would be burned to the ground by a mob of salivating Leftists carrying torches and pitchforks.  But when a Government official says that ethnic minorities and women need special help, it's meekly accepted by a populace that's been cowed into submission by the specter of being called a 'racist' if they dare to ask for true equality and equal treatment for everyone.

You wouldn’t put a water fountain up marked “For Whites Only” - but Labour are happy to put a paying job up marked “For Black/Ethnic Minority Only” - and then expect you to praise them for doing it.

It seems that the Mail is doing their part to silence public voices and leave the impression that nobody objects to policies like this.  Even though I've sent in dozens of extremely polite and courteous yet anti-Labour reader comments over the years and have had none pass their censors and make it to their 'comments' pages, they still have posted many anti-Labour comments from other readers.  This is quite a shock and I hope that it's a technical problem that they're experiencing and not a new 'crush dissent' policy.

Time will tell I suppose.

How can people not see the blindingly obvious truth of this?

I believe that the vast majority of people both in the UK as well as the USA do indeed see the truth but they are too terrified to speak up, for fear of being tarred as a 'racist' and having their lives and careers destroyed as a result of speaking the truth.

Truth and a free person's ability to speak the truth have always been the Left's greatest enemy.

Are the “leaders” of the ethnic minorities completely stupid, or what?

I believe that they are actually quite smart, in that they are sly and cunning enough to take full advantage, wherever and whenever they can, of the tremendous power that they wield as 'protected' minorities.

I see that message on the DM comments all the time-including on the most innocuous beauty and fashion articles. I believe it’s either a recurring glitch, or the message they display while they are posting additional comments.

Astonishing and profoundly saddening, but not surprising given the current social climate.  Police here in the USA are also required to treat certain people differently than others, such as being required to avoid asking about a Hispanic person's immigration / citizenship status during a traffic stop.

You were right....I see that the comments have been restored now, although there are far fewer than what I recall from yesterday. My memory could be faulty but I seem to recall about 161 or 164 comments when I posted this article and now there are 99.

They probably pull the comments that have the biggest negative numbers-you can press the red arrow (down) or the green arrow(up) on any comment once, and they probably have a system so when a comment has been down dinged by too many folks, off it comes. I've seen comments go into negative 800s before.

The Scottish police chief's decision is (no doubt UNintentionally) perfectly aligned with sharia's standards of the relative importance of moslems and nonmoslems. I don't think it's a conspiracy...I just think PC liberals don't understand that their patronizing condescension towards Poor Downtrodden Moslems is interpreted as submission and fear by those same "victims of society". And I agree-Gates of Vienna is one of the finest anti Jihad sites out there. It's on par with Robert Spencer's Jihad Watch/Dhimmi Watch, if you've never tried that site.

Oh for sure that is true, but they are holding the tiger by its tail. Standard, everyday, anglo-saxon white english people make up 75% of the population of the UK. They are dormant, but there are signs they are stirring. The country is rapidly tiring of all this guilt-induced special rights for minorities, especially as said minorities steadfastly refuse to integrate and indeed compromise on anything. These community “leaders” (and they aren’t), risk the very racist backlash they purport to be fighting against.
