We need to slow America down. Slow down, America, and slow down the President and the Congress. Everyone knows that speed kills and haste makes waste. Wonder if the talk shows would be interested in a drive time story?
The Tea Party was a good idea, and a massive April 15th showing on the Mall is good too, but how about a wide spread, simple plan to involve everyone with a wish to get active and create an impact without permits, plans, police, out of pocket expense and driving 1,000 miles. And something that could be done right away.
Maybe a Slow Down America event?
Slow down! What's the Hurry? Haste makes waste. Think of it as the motorized equivalent of going out on your balcony and screaming "I'm fed up and I'm not going to take it anymore!"
Everyone who wants to take part can go, the more the better. Even if they would otherwise be too old, too young, or physically incapable of doing it - everyone loves a Sunday drive. Think massive funeral processions, with lights on and flags, placards and all the signs you want to put on cars and trucks, but with a unifying message - Slow Down America - Haste Makes Waste.
Slow down - not stop - every major artery - on a lot of freeways and highways that just means doing the speed limit - with long, slow processions into every major city right around the time everyone is coming home from their weekend. Movable Sunday night vigils back into the city.
Of course a REALLY aggressive move would be to do it every morning starting at 6am and every afternoon starting at 4pm until we get the full attention of the public, certainly in no more than a few days.
Genuine, no kidding lights-on funeral processions - Death of American Economy processions with (optional, but very effective, if donated) hearses or town cars in every lane leading the procession in a looooong and sloooow trip into the cities...something that can't be ignored...something that is NOT illegal and needs no permits...in every city in America.
Slow down, America, slow down, Congress and slow down Mr. President. Speed Kills. Haste makes waste. Turn that long drive home into a marathon of slowing down and patience. It might be considered obstructionist, but why not obstruct socialism? Besides, we just need to slow things down - get those blue dogs thinking REAL hard about this - get those RINOS to stop rollling over and maybe get some moderate to conservative Dems back in the fold.
Bring the family, make it a nice Sunday drive with some like minded friends...it doesn't take a whole lot of people to clog every main road in a city - if you live or work near one, you know where the weak spots are - 30 or so cars together coming from each direction into LA, Chicago, NYC, Boston...the smaller the city the easier to do, but no logistical genius required to map it out either.
If you fill each lane with a 55mph vehicle starting 30 miles out on the North and South, the East and West, the alternate main routes, etc...you know where they are...just set out at a time that will put you thirty miles from the city at precisely 5am going in or or 4pm coming out - on a weekday or 5pm going in on a Sunday. Find that sweet spot on a road map and - let's call it the Freedom On-ramp - and that's all the organization you need. A lot of us found each other last Friday easy enough.
No laws broken - nothing to endanger the public - just a slow and steady crawl along the highways and byways - don't stop, just take a leisurely drive - let everyone know that America needs to slow down a little and not rush into anything socialist.
Just a thought...from a frustrated taxpayer who wants us to slow down...who wants to slow things down and doesn't understand the huge outlay this administration is demanding for such a small return on investment (I am, after all a businessman and ROI is everything these days). Give me an early morning, an afternoon or a Sunday evening and we could probably field a good sized team that could get a lot of attention by slowing things down...and it could be, that we could accomplish something good...like the man said, "on any given Sunday."
Or weekday. Wonder if the talk shows would be interested in covering a drive time story?
discipline would be critical - we couldn't go and stop in the middle of the highways or do road blocks - there would be knucleheads that would want to start trouble...I know those concerns would be big...but I think we can do this responsibly. There have been some real effective tractor and truck rallies...

Oh, and by the way? The 55mph double nickel limit was a SOCIALIST invention that proved to NOT save energy but cost the US economy untold BILLIONS.

Stu-u-u-upid idea. Pissing people off and keeping them from doing what they need to do will earn you ABSOLUTELY no friends. A few years ago, the firemen in Newton, MA tied up a busy intersection during the morning rush hour by walking as slowly as they could back and forth across the crosswalk. For two hours their brother police officers wouldn’t arrest them. One of the most pro-union, liberal towns in America damn near had an armed revolution on their hands by 10:00 am. They lost every last shred of sympathy they might have had.

We wouldn’t want to try any different kind of activism that inconveniences anyone while we watch the Kenyan getting us to circle the drain...I know...we’ll all write an angry letter to the LA Times...or keep putting twelve people out with placards that get less coverage than the average little league game...this was just some thinking out loud, don’t stroke out...

What do you think will have been done to us by then??? that is my concern...I agree that something like that is a great idea, I said so in the beginning, I worry that we can’t get it done in time, plus we all work for a living and some of us can’t get away and we don’t have ACORN picking up the tab...with their new wealth rolling in, especially...we need something that can not be ignored, because it will be, and I honestly fear what will happen between now and the big splash unless there are constant ripples on the pond...

Agreed. I would rather spitball and try to get us thinking about ways to act NOW than to wait until we can come up with the grand gesture...by then it may be too late...these roaches are going warp speed on us...

Okay. Well, I agree with actually slowing down in traffic, if you can get enough other people to do it. If only a few do it, the tailgating, young meth bullies will make casualties of ‘em.
I want to suggest simply staying at home more. Don’t spend much. With more money, you’ll have more power at the right time to come. With more time spent on a productive hobby (like making car parts from ingots), you’ll become even more powerful. ...and less revenues for the government.
