This is the bank that loaned Obama the money for his REZCO house deal.

Well, it’s a good thing they are “de-TARPing” themselves. Now they won’t have government strings attached to them. It’s not worth having to listen to blithering idiots like Bawney Fwank try to micromanage your business.

I guess Barney did not get his promised BJ on the 18th hole. Ahh! The wages of socialism. No sponsoring elitist non proletarian sport. The Red Guard strikes again.Counter cultural non-approved sport cannot be sponsored! The Comintern on American cultural activity has spoken! All bankers in the future will be submitted to the Cultural Comittee for re-eduction in the Gulags!

Give back the Tarp money and tell them to fack right off!

My understanding is that Northern Trust did not want the money to begin with. They are a sound bank. Besides, are we to accept BLarney’s approval for everything they do? BLarney is one of the guys who put us in trouble to begin with!

Rush mentioned this bank in his "First Address To The Nation" today at CPAC. Said they did not want the TARP money but were forced to take it!

Once.

Just once.

Just once, I wish one of these CEOs, who are supposedly to be so smart, brash and aggressive, would just tell Frank, Dodd, et al to FO.

Tell them that they are running successful companies, and Congress, which destroys everything it touches, is the biggest failure on the planet, and they have no business trying to tell us how to run our business.

Then declare, “This circus is over” and walk the hell out of the hearing.

If I was the CEO of Northern Trust, I would have had the $ 1.5 billion check on a poster board and thrown it on the floor in front of the Congresscritters, and said, “Here’s your TARP money back—you’ll need it to pay for all of youer useless pork projects!”

Is there no one in the boardrooms with any balls?

They’re doing it so their execs can receive unlimited compensation.

They’re a lot more polite than I would have been. I’d have written, “We never wanted your damned money in the first place, but you insisted. If you don’t like how we run our business, we’d be absolutely delighted to give it back if it means you’ll butt out of our affairs. Just tell us where to send the check.”

We deeply regret that some of the events associated with the Northern Trust Open have distracted from the positive nature of an event that has raised more than $50 million for charity since its inception.

The media totally ignored the fact that this is a charity event. The grandstanders just want to demoralize a thoroughly legitimate business. Charity events go on all the time. I'm sure Bawney and friends attend thousands of them. I would love to hear from the charities that are helped by this tournament.

Northern Trust, after receiving $1.5 million in Troubled Asset Relief Program funds, has apologized

Surely this whole thing isn't over a measly one and a half million!

Did the bankers also ask for a refund of all the campaign contributions they gave these self righteous political hacks?

Merrill Lynch’s CEO now says they will pay back the TARP “hopefully in 2 or 3 years”.

How can Merrill Lynch say that borrowing the money was a “mistake” when they won’t be paying it back for 2-3 years? I think what they are saying means they really needed the money when they borrowed it. What they mean is it wasn’t really a mistake because ML really can’t make a go of its business without the money.

It looks like these TARPers are grabbing cheap headlines by claiming they either didn’t need the money, don’t want it, or are planning to give it back when they really plan to hold onto the money for years. What am I missing?
