Limbaugh Rallies Conservatives to Find 'Right Candidate' (Romney wins CPAC straw poll)
Fox News ^ | February 28, 2009

Rush Limbaugh was 15 minutes early to the stage, but no one was complaining Saturday evening in Washington, D.C., at the Conservative Political Action Conference.

Quite the contrary. On the conference's third and final day, the conservative talk radio host was the headliner, and the crowd greeted him with an immense ovation.

"Ladies and gentleman, this is my first ever address to the nation," Limbaugh joked, noting that FOX News and C-SPAN were broadcasting the speech live.

Limbaugh then spent his first 15 minutes giving an impassioned summary of what it means to be a conservative before turning the focus to the movement's recent electoral record.

"We can take this country back. All we need is to nominate the right candidate," he said.

The speech was the culmination of an event that featured often fiery speeches by some of top names of the conservative movement and the Republican party, including former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, former GOP presidential candidate Mike Huckabee and conservative commendator Ann Coulter.

I was quite disappointed that CSPAN didnt carry the CPAC conference, at least when I checked.

Also on the straw poll “Romney won” isn’t the whole story.

“Romney took 20 percent of the vote, followed by Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal with 14 percent, Texas Rep. Ron Paul with 13 percent, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin with 13 percent, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich with 10 percent and former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee with 7 percent.”

[Think for a bit about how quickly the public perception of pop culture figures like Britney Spears or Mickey Rourke change.]

...and who promoted the public perception? It was the same source that has denigrated Conservatives, the media will do their work to identify the favorite in the Conservative and systematically destroy them.

The public won’t be given the chance to forget, it will be a relentless attack to keep that person’s image as negative as possible for as long as it takes.

As much as I liked Sarah Palin, she's damaged goods in the minds of the majority of the electorate because of McCain blowing the election and because of Tina Fey on SNL.

It's time to find someone else, someone who's never been part of the GOP establishment. Someone who's not a politician.

What has happened to CPAC? Conservatives used to be more discerning.

true...and yet, didn't he (Romney) spent 42+ million, during the last election cycle...maybe he paid / furnished tickets to this mtg. and all they had to do is vote on this straw poll, This was a very cheap victory.

Let's not worry about straw polls at this time. History has proven they mean nothing. let's concentrate on 2010 elections. I think that the person that will lead us in 2012 has not appeared on the scene as a player yet (sorry Sarah Pallin). This country is not even going to look the same by then. Our conservative leader we need can have no compromise with liberal positions. Listen to what Rush said

After Obama the nay sayers may not mind a Romney

A very inspiring campaign slogan, indeed. Still doesn't convince this naysayer, though.

I sure hope it isn’t Palin. At this point, I like Newt the best.

Rush’s speech was pretty good. But Newt’s was better.

I just got through re-watching Rush on C-Span - mountain time. Newt is on now - talking about 2010 election.

We can't wait for another election. Have to begin speaking out, again. Even though I'm a nobody, politicians used to reply.

Idiocracy is a great movie. The movie seemed incredulous in how bad things were in the future 2505, but the parallels from that movie and our currect president is eerily similar. I’m waiting for Obama to have the Department of Agriculture to start using Brawndo to water crops with, because it’s got electrolytes!

I sure hope so. Get behind one and vote. It doesn't matter at this point. Obama needs to go.
