The American soldier stepped out of the Baghdad nightclub. In one hand, he clutched his weapon. In the other, a green can of Tuborg beer. He took a sip and walked over to two comrades, dressed as he was in camouflage and combat gear.
Inside the club Thursday night, U.S. soldiers of the 82nd Airborne Division ogled young Iraqi women who appeared to be prostitutes gyrating to Arabic pop music. A singer crooned soulfully through scratchy speakers to the raucous, pulsating beat an action that Islamic extremists have deemed punishable by beheading.
Twenty minutes later, several drunk men coaxed an American soldier to dance. He awkwardly shuffled his feet, wearing night-vision equipment and a radio, joining the women and boisterous young men in an Arabic chain dance around tables covered with empty beer bottles.

Iraqi “prostitute” in a Muslim country being ogled by “Crusader” Americans? Alcohol? This will go over well..
this never happened til obama became president
Check the source. I’m not buying it.
MSNBC of course brings such stories now to glorify Obama as the "bringer of peace".
We have won in Iraq with Petreaus/Bush... Obama is trying to take the credit for "ending the war". Expect a lot more stories of normality in Iraq from now on.
It’s SOP for a soldier in uniform with a weapon to be drinking beer and dancing in a bar? Something ain’t right.
They won’t be open long. That’s too inviting a target for a suicide bomber.
The entire tone of the article is demeaning, and creates the impression that the entire purpose of the U.S. invasion was to establish prostitution and drinking.
I really like that Tuborg beer. It’s hard to find in the US, but it’s plentiful in Baghdad.
This is the only thing MSNBC could find to report about in Iraq? Thank you, MSNBC, for your wonderful “journalism”. Simply one more reason why I will not watch the channel, or anything else associated with them.
Don’t know about that detail. Sorry, if I misunderstood your post. I was just commenting on the general circumstance that dancing, drinking, partying and making out aren’t unusual in the Middle East. I thought you were referring to this.
No, for once, MSNBC is correct. Iraq has always been pretty secular and alcohol is legal. Most of the women dress just like we do and they listen to western music, watch western TV shows and are often much more up on American pop culture than I am.
Baghdad had night life before the war and they're just resuming their lives again now that things are much more secure.
Their fixed.
This is not good. If Iraq wants to have night clubs open to Iraq citizens, I say fine. If I was the U.S. Commander over there though, I would put every one of them off limits to U.S. Soldiers. U. S. Soldiers getting drunk in Iraq clubs can lead to nothing but bad to include some U.S. Deaths and Criminal charges.
“Sorry”
For...??????????
Actually I needed that after the giant in my face pic of Helen Thomas that I was bushwhacked with on another thread. God Bless you, my FRiend. LOL. All things work out in the end.
I would agree.
Me either!
