If a union-boosting bill is passed by Congress later this year, it could cost members of the African American community their jobs, members of a panel hosted by the National Black Chamber of Congress (NBCC) said at the National Press Club on Tuesday.
The Employee Free Choice Act (EFCA) or card check bill, is heavily favored by labor unions and their Democratic allies.
The bill would give more leverage to union organizers by replacing the secret ballot with a system in which workers would openly sign a card saying they want to join a union. To unionize a workplace, fifty percent of the workers would have to sign a union authorization card.
Critics say the public "card check" process leaves workers open to unfair pressure from union organizers. Further, they say that effectively eliminating the secret ballot is contrary to American tradition.

Is it time to start up the popcorn popper?
Why do blacks stay with the Dimocrats????
Maybe because they both have such low expectations of each other?
When did it become congress’s job to regulate collective bargaining?
1. First "card check".
2. Businesses that can relocate jobs offshore, in order stay competative.
3. Businesses that cannot relocate offshore lay off employees, in order to keep the doors open.
4. Worst case, businesses can no longer survive with union labor (auto makers are but one example), and they go bankrupt. (100% layoff.)

Maybe because they both have such low expectations of each other?
Maybe that’s it...they both deliver on them so well...

Racist group!
< About the same time that it became Congress' job to regulate everything in America.
You could put that date at 2006, when the Dems regained control of Congress
If this bill stinks so bad that McGovern is against it, you know it's a real turd.
There is a TV ad as well that has been running on and off for a few months now. McGovern may be a turd but he seems to believe in some semblance of democracy.
(I'm not sure I'm ready to call McGovern a turd yet...yet, but this bill certainly is one).
Let me ask you, were you around in ‘72?
Yes, although I was not old enough to vote. I remember we had mock elections in our class at school, and I was the only one who “voted” for Nixon. I have vague memories of my parents being for McGovern, so I don’t know why I was for Nixon. Maybe it was just to be contrary to the prevailing sentiment. I remember the class laughed when the vote was however many to my one lone vote, and they all knew it was me as I was the only one who “campaigned” for Nixon. Funny, I don’t remember them laughing so much when McGovern lost in the actual election.
Reminds me of that New York liberal lady—I forget her name—who said about that same election, “I don’t understand how Nixon won—nobody I know voted for him.”
