The Obama administration will seek to reinstate the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004 during the Bush administration, Attorney General Eric Holder said today.
"As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons," Holder told reporters.

Why is anyone surprised?

re: Richard Daley, Generalissimo Zero
The 2010's are going to be a stone-cold rout.
Off to pick up another Glock 23 today...never know when something happens to one or the other. Also buying more large capacity mags.
Get them before they become impossible to buy.
Don’t forget the “ACORN effect”. We may never see a legitimate vote again, after they get their billions in funding.
No, those guns don't go down there from US retailers; but they will be finding their way up here if The Kenyan gets his way. Think about it this way: If you're going to get the same jail time over a wannabe assault rifle as you would over the real thing, then why not just get the real thing? If the risk is the same, then it makes sense to buy a real AK47 that's been smuggled in from Mexico over a semi-auto only rifle that merely looks like the AK.
The Kenyan should be careful what he wishes for. He just might get it.
flow of guns going across the border into Mexico
Geeze, that has to rate at least a 9 on a scale of 1-10 on the Lame-o-meter.
You know that they were itching to see word a big massacre cross the news wires, failing that at least SOME up-tick in violence due to so-called assault weapons.
But come on!!
help cut down on the flow of guns going across the border into Mexico,
Heres a Radical concept !!!! Build a fence ACROSS the Border
The great thing about a fence is that IT WORKS BOTH WAYS!!!!!!
Note how the democrats fight every effort to secure the border, then use the insecure border to justify taking rights away from americans.
“”I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.” Holder said “
So we are beholden to Mexico now?
Amazingly stupid.....not to mention UNCONSTITUTIONAL!
If you are not a member of the NRA, JOIN TODAY!
And they said that people buying alot of guns and ammo were panicking unnecessarily.
The people are much smarter than DC will ever know.
Looks like some lefties are even waking up:

We don’t have laws restricting access to grenades.
Where can I get some of those those? /sarcasm
How an enumerated right can this easily be offered up a mere 8 months after being reasserted by the Supreme Court because of the "positive effects" doing so might have on a foreign country that cannot control its borders, by the AG that can't control our borders and would rather not try, is beyond reason.
The AG is sworn to uphold the law and protect our constitutional rights. That's the job! If he'd rather not do that then step down already and let someone do it who is capable.
You should. He’s one of the more notably respectable members of FR. He speaks, pay attention.
You can buy grenades legally. $200 tax, paperwork, and several-week background check for each one.
Somehow I don’t think banning semi-autos in the US will much affect grenade sales in Mexico. The AG is a moron.
Obama to Seek New Assault Weapons Ban
Thursday, February 26, 2009 7:45 PM
The Obama administration has its sights set on reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired in 2004.
Attorney General Eric Holder told reporters that the move would help stem the tide of guns that cross into Mexico from the United States. Mexico is currently struggle with a surge of violence linked to drug cartels.
“As President Obama indicated during the campaign, there are just a few gun-related changes that we would like to make, and among them would be to reinstitute the ban on the sale of assault weapons,” Holder said, according to ABC News. “I think that will have a positive impact in Mexico, at a minimum.”
Holder did not indicate when the administration might act on reinstating the ban.
“It’s something, as I said, that the president talked about during the campaign,” Holder said. “There are obviously a number of things that are — that have been taking up a substantial amount of his time, and so, I’m not sure exactly what the sequencing will be.”

Wrong. You are partially correct in that IF you could find HE, and they were transferable on the registry, you would do the same application for tax paid transfer as other destructive devices (mortars, howizers, etc.)
Problem is that there are only two (2) or three (3) manufacturers of grenades (40mm HE) or hand grenades (M67 frag) in US ..Thiokol, Rock Island Armory, and someone in PA. If someone is dumb enough to keep around Vietnam era (or earlier) grenades, you risk deterioration and self detonation with 40 year old explosives. As much as I like blowing stuff up, I would NEVER even store, play with, inspect, shoot, or be around ANY explosives older than their manufacturer's shelf life, even in perfect storage conditions.
Anyways, these very few corporations that manufacture HE grenades will NOT sell to the public since they are 100% government contract.
I know several Type 10/Class 02 FFL types and they have never seen a transferable HE grenade for either hand or 40mm applications.
If you become a manufacturer for the governement for R&D purposes, you can make your own. If you choose to sell to the Class 02/Class 03 SOT community, you will NEVER get a government contract. Only one (1) insurance company that will insure high explosives manufacture, and they won't even bond you if you had $1mm in cash. Good luck!
