Ann Coulter: THE CAL RIPKEN PRESIDENT

THE CAL RIPKEN PRESIDENT
February 25, 2009

As Obama prepared to deliver his address to Congress on Tuesday, the Republican House Minority Leader John Boehner, Fox News' Bret Baier and Charles Krauthammer all gushed that history was being made as the first African-American president appeared before Congress.

Even Gov. Bobby Jindal, whom I suppose I should note was the first Indian-American to give the Republican response to a president's speech, began with an encomium to the first black president. (Wasn't Bobby great in "Slumdog Millionaire"?)

Are we going to have to hear about this for the next four years? Obama is becoming the Cal Ripken Jr. of presidents, making history every time he suits up for a game. Recently, Obama also became the first African-American president to order a ham sandwich late at night from the White House kitchen! That's going to get old pretty quick.

But as long as the nation is obsessed with historic milestones, is no one going to remark on what a great country it is where a mentally retarded woman can become speaker of the house?

Obama spent more than twice as much time in his historic speech genuflecting to the teachers' unions than talking about terrorism, Iraq or Afghanistan. So it was historic only in the sense that Obama is the first African-American president, but was the same old Democratic claptrap in every other respect.

After claiming that the disastrous stimulus bill would create or save 3.5 million jobs -- "more than 90 percent" in the private sector -- Obama then enumerated a long list of exclusively government jobs that would be "saved."

He was suspiciously verbose about saving the jobs of public schoolteachers. Because nothing says "economic stimulus" better than saving the jobs of lethargic incompetents who kick off at 2 p.m. every day and get summers off. Actually, that's not fair: Some teachers spend long hours after school having sex with their students.

As with the Clintons, Obama so earnestly believes in public school education that he sends his girls to ... an expensive private school. He demands that taxpayers support the very public schoolteachers he won't trust with his own children.

It is one thing to tell voters that school choice is wrong, because, you know, the public schools won't get better unless Americans sacrifice their children to the teachers' union's maw. But it is quite another for Democrats to feed their own kids to the union incinerator.

Consequently, no Democrat since Jimmy Carter has been stupid enough to send his own children to a public school.

Note to self: Set the coffee down before reading Ann Coulter.

You know, I love Ann, but sometimes she really grates me.. I don't know any teachers who are like this.. my wife, for example, usually goes in before 7am and is there until at least 8pm every night. Most nights, as soon as she gets home, she sits down at the computer to enter grades and do lesson plans. Weekends are spend with rehearsals and contests with her students and summers are spent at conferences or preparing for the next year. OK, rant over..

I can sympathize with those of you who work for the government and put in a honest days work, or more so, but if it were the norm, we would not have the lowest literacy level of the developed world and armies of useless bureaucrats who’s only function is to do something to slow down progress and achievement.

"Consequently, no Democrat since Jimmy Carter has been stupid enough to send his own children to a public school."

As I recall, Amy Carter did attend public school briefly, but ended up graduating from Sidwell Friends - one of the most expensive if not THE most expensive private school in DC.

I'm sure you and your wife and your colleagues are great teachers. I'm also going to assume you teach at a suburban school. I think you'd find that the work ethic in the big city school system (DC in particular)is much, much different.

John Stossel, from ABC is about the only journalist I've seen tackle this problem. He sent a hidden camera into a NYC school a few years back - it was terrifying and a cold indictment of many of the teachers in that particular school.

Many, many teachers are dedicated professionals that commit their lives, daytime and night, to the education and development of their students. Sadly, in the inner-cities (where the students need the most support), there is a much greater percentage of teachers who are there just pick-up a check.

I don't teach, however, my wife's school is actually urban, the toughest school in town with the highest poverty rate. Our town is mid size that may make a difference, also Texas has higher standards than other States when it comes to certification. I do know teachers in Dallas though with similar stories, of course, there are some that do cut every corner, but I think they are the bad apple in the lot, not representational of the whole. I would hate to visit DC or Chicago schools..

I will give you though that one of the biggest obstacles to teachers is other teachers. They often act worse than the students when it comes to gossip, complaining, and playing relationship games with each other. My wife avoids the teacher's lounge so she doesn't have to listen to it. Of course, she goes in with the attitude that this is her mission, and that makes all the difference.

I thought Bill O’Reilly’s reference to Nancy Pelosi doing Richard Simmons’ exercises during the speech was also funny and TRUE...UP, DOWN, UP, DOWN...clap, clap, clap.

Also Laura Ingraham said Pelosi looked like the first ‘JOKER’ in Batman. That is also TRUE! I couldn’t believe the woman looked so much like a clown with that frozen face (and TRYING to smile)!

Don't let it get you down, your wife can be counted with countless good teachers out there fighting to teach our kids propely by going against the grain of the government and the teachers unions which don't want our kids to learn.

Coulter was of course targeting the many teachers that actually are "lethargic incompetents."

God bless your wife!

I wasn't aware of either one of those right on comments by O'Reily and Ingraham!

Thanks for posting those to this thread.

How funny

Even funnier was Laura Ingraham asking her listeners in DC to look for Michelle’s SLEEVES to her dress because it was around 20 degrees the night of Obama’s speech and Michelle was wearing a SLEEVELESS dress!

Actually, that “no pork” graphic would be more hard-hitting if it had the face of a certain “piggish” looking congressman in it.

John Murtha comes to mind.

Ann Coulter has gone too far...

Ann Coulter has always been a valiant fighter in the intellectual battle for conservatism. I even have a couple of her books, but she has gone too far this time.

She's irritated me for a while now (didn't buy the last 2 books) and it has finally reached a tipping point: 1. It is one thing to criticize the partisanship and naive policy positions of the Jersey Girls, but it is another thing to start saying disparaging things about their husbands possibly leaving those "harpies". 2. It is one thing to criticize John Edwards for hypocrisy and being an intellectual lightweight, but it is another thing to use a sexual slur against him.

The latest slur against Bobbie Jindal is the final straw, and unfortunately it took her slandering a conservative for me to lose my patience with her...
