But for the next year and a half, the center of Romney's political universe will shift west to Sacramento, where key parts of his operation have reassembled on behalf of Meg Whitman, a longtime friend and former business colleague ....
The former eBay CEO is still readying her headquarters, but it has already become something of a campaign-in-exile for Romney's ambitions, which could include another presidential run in 2012....
"Mitt's going to be involved in dozens and dozens of races, but one that he's particularly excited about is the race for governor of California," said Eric Fehrnstrom, a Romney spokesman....

Romney and Whitman both harshly criticized the $787 billion stimulus package championed by President Obama and congressional Democrats, saying it includes too much bloated spending and not enough tax cuts. Whitman is also railing against the plan, signed into law yesterday, of tax increases and spending cuts to plug California's $42 billion budget deficit, saying in a statement it "will kill jobs, hurt families, and make future deficits worse."

It’d be something if Romney could bring California back to red.
Swartzenegger has irritated me way too often. It would be nice to have an alternative.
California is going to be a tough nut to crack. Its not a particularly conservative state overall. Pretty conservative in the central valley, but the Los Angeles and San Francisco rule at the ballot box.
I am afraid after Mr.Arnold Shriver, it will be years before the republicans can have the governorship..no matter who runs..
Too bad Meg Whitman is such an abortion advocate. So much for Mitt’s conversion. Leaves me really disappointed. I thought he was going to spend the next four years convincing folks that he is a conservative.
The Romney liberal leveraged buyout of the Republican Party continues. Thanks for making people aware.
Some things are so far-fetched that they can't be sold no matter how much money you have.
Romney is a complete dirtbag. I’ll be polite and leave it at that.
I wish Mutt would just pack up his magic underwear and move over to the RAT party where he belongs!
Romney is a fake.
Two peas in a pod........ so to speak.
If abortion is your only issue, you are doomed to a lifetime of political disappointment my friend.
This crap was posted several times last week.
Romney and Whitman are faux conservatives.
Enough already.
This is how we ended up with McCain.
How’d that work out?
If pro life advocacy ISN'T a non-negotiable core value then you are doomed to an eternity of disappointment my friend.
Amen
Not good.
Do you think we could elect anyone in CA that isn't? I'm willing to take an 80% conservative Republican over a 100% liberal Democrat . . . in states where that is the best you can get.
And help us elect a Governor who can return our state back to Black (Budget wise).
It doesn’t prosper one to gain to world only to lose their soul.
Pro-abortion = no go.
