Mitt Romney backs GOP Stimulus Detractors with PAC Money
LA Times ^ | February 24, 2009 | Staff

Today, as ABC's perceptive Rick Klein notes, Romney's PAC -- Free and Strong America -- donated $1,000 each to 11 Republican congressmen targeted in a retaliatory ad campaign by the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee for voting against President Obama's economic stimulus bill. Romney praised the Republicans as "standing up for fiscal responsibility and saying no to spending abuse."

“Here’s the reality, he couldn’t even beat John McCain for the GOP nomination, he’s finished.”

I believe if the Republicans had all closed primaries especially New Hampshire Romney would have won. If you look at only republicans who voted in New Hampshire Romney won a slight majority and that would have ended McCain’s run. Instead non republicans put McCain over.

Many people said the same about the man whom you quote on your tagline.. after Ford beat him in the primary of 1976.

Wrong. Ford was the sitting president and presumed nominee; once Ford lost the election, Reagan became the unofficial leader of the GOP.

"Take a lesson and stop beating our own and save it for the opposition. If we spent half as much time working AGAINST Democrats and Liberals as we did trying to determine who the perfect Conservative is and building our base, we’d be ahead of the game. Romney will fall off, we don’t have to beat him off."

Very well said. Except for the last part. Romney ran on a pro-life Reagan conservative platform and he will have to govern that way or lose re-election. He is an expert at getting companies out of the red. We will desperately need those kinds of skills in four years after Obama and the democrats, idiots all, push this economy over a cliff.

Was Ronald Reagan finsished when he couldn’t even beat Gerald Ford?

I think not.

Reagan was SUPPOSED to lose to Ford.

McCain also lost the election and Romney has continued to build a strong base in the Republican party since pulling out of the primary. The situations are strikingly similar.

And Mitt would have won the Florida primary, were it not for Gov. Ruth Crist’s last minute power play endorsement.

Cathy:"Sorry, I’ve seen religious bigotry from so called conservatives -
here and on a variety of other sites. I call it as I see it.
"

I dont believe you. Find one instance and post it here.

What we HAVE seen is the RomneyATTACKsquad over and over.

Connect the dots......
Dan Gilgoff is yet another Romney supporter,
off the bench and in to attack Gov. Palin this month, for backstabber Carpetbagger RINO Mitt Romney.
There are enough attacks against Gov. Palin that this effort is concerted (p < .0001)

Dan Gilgoff: "Bobby Jindal, Catholic, Draws the Same "Secret Muslim" Allegations That Haunted Obama"
February 24, 2009 - I'm surprised that a few comments on my post about Bobby Jindal as the new face of
Christian conservatism allege that he's got ancestral Muslim roots, in addition to the acknowledged
Hinduism of his Indian born parents.
Remind you of any other recent rumor campaigns against promising young minority politicians?
What's surprising is that some of the comments appear to be from pro-Sarah Palin conservatives."

BZZZZZZT: The Real Deal is otherwise.

Dan Gilgoff, May 8, 2007, "A seat at Romney's table"
"If the next Republican to occupy the White House must follow that same strategy,
Mitt Romney, former Massachusetts governor, may be in much better shape than polls suggest.
..At last week's debate, Romney went furthest in speaking the language of the Christian Right, ...
Romney's also meeting with evangelical leaders,
even sending them wooden chairs mounted with plaques declaring,
"You are welcome at our table anytime."

Gilgoff: "Bigoted Redneck Evangelicals Stopped the Nomination of Marvelous Mitt
.... I’m so offended at the suggestion of Dan Gilgoff in USA Today
that the reason that Mitt Romney lost is because we Evangelicals just couldn’t bring ourselves to vote for a Mormon.
I’ve followed the national conversation among Conservative Christians about Mitt Romney.
Little of it centered on his Mormonism, much more on the fact of his shift on the issues."

Dan Gilgoff Romney propagandist: "("A Massachusetts Conservative," U.S. News & World Report, 2/12/07)
Romney ... (w)ith a Democratic-controlled state legislature, he managed to
balance the budget without raising taxes."
[Romney called the tax increases "fees", and even raised them in NH !!!]

Joe Scarborough is yet another Romney supporter,
in to attack Gov. Palin this month, for backstabber RINO Mitt Romney.

"Pat Buchanan asks Ziegler who were the main culprits in the media attack against Palin,
and Joe Scarborough interrupted Ziegler and would not let him answer!"

"Scarborough: Romney Won Debate"
"Mitt Romney Absolutely Dominated"

"Joe Scarborough losing more and more sleep over McCain
"John McCain is ruining Joe Scarborough’s life. Joe can’t sleep or eat.
His man Romney is now showing 15 points behind McCain nationally.
Joe is sick over it. How could the good republicans of this nation vote for such a liberal.
He aims to do something about it. He doesn’t know what yet, but dammit,
Romney is going to be President if he has his way about it. He knows the real Mitt.
He knows Mitt simply lied to get elected in MA. He doesn’t know why he lied, and he doesn’t care."

More dots...... Carol Platt Liebau is yet another Romney supporter,
in to attack Gov. Palin this month, for backstabber Carpetbagger RINO Mitt Romney.
"Mitt Romney has been the most consistently excellent debater overall in the two meetings of the Republican candidates.
He is personable, clearly well informed, incredibly well-funded, and surrounded by a crack staff.
All that, taken together, goes far to explain why his numbers in Iowa -- and elsewhere -- are looking better and better."

"But the other candidate who's very compelling is Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney."

Even more dots...... Douglas Kmiec is yet another Romney supporter from the Romney Keep,
in to attack on the GOP, for backstabber Carpetbagger RINO Mitt Romney.
"Romney supporter turned Obama man Douglas Kmiec indulged in quite a litany of name-calling,
finger pointing and demagoguery against the GOP that would have been amazing from the same man only one year ago.
Kmiec has shown that he no longer cares much how he is viewed, going full Democrat Partisan at this point.
"

"Kmiec was named by Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney
to head the Romney for President Committee
on the Courts and the Constitution in 2007."

Surprise. Surprise. Connect the dots......
Cal Thomas is yet another Romney supporter,
in to attack Gov. Palin this month, for backstabber Carpetbagger RINO Mitt Romney.
"Cal’s Surprising Suggestion: ‘I Wish The Palins Would Leave The Stage For Awhile’"

"Romney obviously hopes that a growing number of Americans
accept the view of Cal Thomas, a popular journalist and an evangelical."

"Writing in his syndicated column, Cal Thomas commended Romney
for standing "on principle" and putting "more noble things ahead of self-interest." "

Peeking Out From the McCain Wreckage: Mitt Romney

"Someone's got to say it: IS MITT ROMNEY RESPONSIBLE FOR OBAMA'S VICTORY?"

"Vanity: Team Romney Sabotaged Palin and Continuing to Do So?"

"Romney Supporters Trashing Palin"

"Romney advisors sniping at Palin?"

Similar to Romney's other scortched earth tactics:

Novak: Fred Thompson drop-out rumors traced to Romney campaign

Said Novak: The rumors were "traced in part to Mitt Romney's campaign,
trying to stir up strife between McCain and Thompson
."

"Despite outspending his rivals by huge margins throughout the primaries,
(Romney) lost Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Florida and California.
The only primaries he won were in Michigan, where Dad was governor; LDS states;
and a few states on Super Tuesday in which his California-obsessed rivals
couldn't spare the cash to advertise.
Only John Connolly in 1968 had a worse cash-to-delegates ratio.
And John McCain rightly did not like Romney's tactics during the primaries.
(W)hen (Romney's early leads) started slipping away, he resorted to unfair,
distorted, scorched-earth negative ads, betting that his opponents couldn't
afford to spend enough for the truth to catch up to his charges."

Why’s that? Why should he have lost? Ford was an appointed, weak, moderate president.

Because a sitting president has a built-in advantage based on name recognition and national exposure.

Yes, but Reagan was talking about taking the GOP in a conservative direction. Romney IS NOT.

“You are missing my point, and if you had read my posts you would understand that I am not advocating Romney be our nominee for anything. I am saying stop pissing on the guy for raising money and backing conservatives. A little etiquette goes a long way, wasn’t it Reagan’s 11th commandment: “thou shalt not speak ill of fellow Republicans” ?”

Were you against freerepublic taking on Giulliani and making national news in trying to keep him from winning the republican nomination? If you were against it were you also against it helping to keep him from becoming the nominee?

"Nobody opposed him because he was a phony charlatan with a record of advancing liberalism at a greater rate than a Democrat."

Flat. out. lie. uttered in the midst of the greatest giant step toward a socialist state this country has seen in my life time. Obama has almost total and complete unchecked power and no one will get us there faster. No comparison to Mitt's record in MA which moved the state toward the right, in circumstances entirely the opposite of Obama's.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Mormons traditionally OPPOSE militant homosexualism and abortion.

Yes, and so does Mitt. You've been sniffing the anti-Romney glue for too long. And I hate to say it, FR did much to smear him this way.

wasn’t it Reagan’s 11th commandment: “thou shalt not speak ill of fellow Republicans” ? Take a lesson and stop beating our own and save it for the opposition.

As I've already demonstrated, Reagan didn't even believe in this mythical "11th Commandment."

The ONLY time we ever hear about this "11th Commandment" is when we are being told that we need to accept liberalism in the name of "unity".

The only thing I’d ever favor Romney for would be treasury secretary or head of the federal reserve. His business acumen is stellar. Its everything else I can’t stomach.

False. Myth was 100% for abortion, even taxpayer funded, until he decided to run for president. He supported homosexuality and instituted homosexual marriage.
