Houston taxpayers could start footing the bill to help first-time homebuyers pay off debts and improve their credit scores, under a proposal before City Council this week.
The Credit Score Enhancement Program will give up to $3,000 in grants to individuals who are trying to qualify for mortgages through the citys homebuyers assistance program. City officials say some applicants fall short of eligibility by only 10 or 20 points on their credit scores, and paying off some debt balances can quickly improve their numbers.
Want to know how dumb this is? The Chron.com article doesnt mention the sponsor of this proposal before the council. Most likely it is one of Bill Kick the Retarded to the Curb Whites minions because they think it is free money.
The $444,000 for the program is leftover money from a $1.5 million appropriation the city made for emergency home and roof repairs after Hurricane Ike.
Note to whomever: Just because it wasnt given away earlier doesnt make it free money! Gotta love this quote:
New tools are needed to help families move forward towards home ownership, he said. If there are lenders that are offering loan approvals subject to retiring the outstanding payables, or if there is something that can help them get over the credit score threshold, it certainly makes sense.
Ive got your new tool: Pay your freaking bills and stop sucking off of other taxpayers!
New tools are needed to advance all families towards the goal of being billionaires. Such as currency debasement.
I'm running all out of patience.
100 years of failure means nothing to socialists.
AMEN...
Sounds like a marginal borrower anyway...
We dont need to push people into homes that BARELY can afford them.
IDIOT CITY COUNCIL
Actually, socialists have had some major victories. Look at the riches the socialists in power have amassed in the various countries.
How Stupid is the Houston City Council? Since you have enough sense to ask the question you know the answer. We have a few on council that have some sense but not nearly enough.
How about using the "old" tools, working and saving the money?
WTF is WRONG with idiots in government these days? Haven't they learned what got this country into the mess it is in? If people are in bad debt, and don't know how to manage their money to correct their own credit scored by themselves, then DON'T encourage them to take on MORE debt!

I wonder if the city makes change when you get your next parking ticket...
They can come buy my house and I’ll get the hell out of this area.
It’s about running the table, float out homes to those who can’t afford them and then buy them back at bargain prices when they are foreclosed.
How stupid is the Houston City Council? VERY!
This is why I live well outside the moat (610) that surrounds the castle where King White and the Kights of the Council Table send forth their minions to tax and plunder so they can buy the favor of the masses. Hows that revitalization of the downtown area going boss? Still rolling up the streets after 8PM?

Houston used to be a Texas city. Now it looks more and more like Louisiana, full of Poooor parasites from around the globe, most of them illegal.
White and the dwarfs on his Council should be thrown out of office for broaching this ridiculous scam that will use U.S. taxpayer money designated for hurricane relief. If there is a surplus in the hurricane relief fund, they should return it to FEMA or bank it for the next hurricane, but that makes far too much sense and they can’t buy votes by saving it.
Pyramids have tiny tops.
These folks can’t afford to pay off their credit cards, but they will be able to afford their house payments? Haven’t we been here before?
Don’t barf, but many cities have been doing this for some time.
