A 51-year-old woman was attacked by coyotes Saturday night as she walked her dog in southeast Denver, wildlife officials said.
The woman, who lives in the 3900 block of South Oneida Street, told authorities she was walking her 75-pound Labrador retriever when they were surrounded by three coyotes.
Two of the coyotes attacked the dog, and the owner intervened. As she tried to defend the dog, a coyote scratched and bit the woman, according to a new release from the Colorado Division of Wildlife.
The unidentified victim was treated at Swedish Medical Center and released. The dog was taken to a veterinary hospital, said Jennifer Churchill, a DOW spokeswoman.
Surrounded by three coyotes. A good reason not to choose a Derringer as a CCW gun!

I live right on the Denver border to the west. We are getting coyotes like I’ve never seen before. They are jumping fences and snatching dogs. I had one sunning itself under my kids’ swingset not too long ago.
Residential area near Monaco and Mansfield; north of the Tech Center, between 225 and Hampden.
A good reason to carry bear spray.

Highly receommended for wives and daughters. CCW is good but sometimes if you shoot you can get in trouble or for someone who is afraid of guns.
This lady could have sprayed it near the coyotes and they would have fled. Her Labrador better be going with her in the other direction because his sniffer is even stronger.

I live in the mountains west of Denver. I have not seen much increase in the number of coyotes, but a big increase in the black bear incidents. My wife saw a coyote try to catch our neighbors little yippy dogs, one of the flat-nosed and long haired types, maybe 7-8lbs. The dog got away, but another had disappeared about a year prior. I continually warned my neighbor that her dogs would become a snack if she let them run outside.
My parents live on the Palmer Divide and have been having a lot of trouble with bears in the past couple of years.

I live near Albany NY and ran into a coyote while walking my 50 pound dog. It was in no mood to fight and ran off. A few days later someone told me she saw 4 “wolves” on the same path. The wolves were prob big coyotes or coydogs. Concealed carry in my area is a no go. Pepper spray is tightly controlled but obtainable. I’ll be packing some on our next walk.
I know the Palmer Divide/Black Forest area well. I can see how bear problems would also be an increasing problem there.
Bears show up from time to time in Newark, NJ, a city of nearly 300,000 people only 15 miles from NYC. They come down from the hills looking for food.
I believe a city to the SE of Denver announced a week or two ago they were going to start shooting coyotes and the activists are raising heck about it.
They are supposed to be able to shoot coyotes and have plans drawn up to use 22 caliber rimfire rifles. I will be shocked if they ever do anything to reduce the coyote problems.
Time to get a 22 rifle. In one city where I lived as a younger kid we had a field behind our home. Other than the field we were surrounded by houses. My brother and I used to open our bedroom window facing the field, stand completely inside our room and shoot Pheasants with a 22 rifle.
If you stood outside you could hear almost nothing when the firearm went off (yes, we tested it to make sure). That bedroom sure made for an effective silencer. A head shot at close range should kill a coyote.
I know 22s could take down wild, feral dogs.
You're probably right, coyotes are very intelligent and ones that have been living in close proximity to man are going to be hard to eradicate, they need a professional trapper or two to make a dent in them.
1. Really brining out the heavy artillery, aren't they.
2. When I want to shoot a coyote, I don't need to "draw up plans" i go get the .223 & shoot the critter. Any place that has to "draw up plans" to shoot a rifle is already lost.
