ALBANY, GA (WALB) - An Albany motel owner was beaten and threatened by a man after refusing to hire him.
Saturday afternoon Dollar Inn Owner Mukesh Patel told Police that a man named "A.K." came in and asked for a job.
When Patel refused to hire him, he says the man hit him in the face twice and then threatened to kill him.
Police are investigating but have made no arrests.
The next day his mom called, apologized, and stated that her son had "problems". She asked if he could still apply for the job...obviously, I said "no".
I’m waiting for the job applicant to sue the motel owner for discrimination and get the job through the court system.
Maybe the Curry aroma overwhelmed the applicant...
I gotta rent that movie again.
There have been times when a particularly arrogant interviewer made it plain that working there wasn’t much fun and I was grateful not to get the job. But this episode is something out of “Office Space” or “Clerks” or “My Name is Earl”.
Of course this is easy to claim now that his name has been posted but I really did guess the motel owner’s name was Patel. Not that there is anything wrong with that.
is there a motel in America that is not owned by a Patel ?

A.K.A. The Motel Sikhs.
LOL
Reminds me of a story. I'd been staying for an extended period in a Residence Inn, for job training, and was in the lobby with a coworker. We over heard the front desk clerk on the phone say "Well, we only have one room left, and we're using an ionizer to get the curry smell out of it.... No, I don't think you understand, there's a really strong curry smell to it.... well, you can come by and I'll show you the room, but I can't imagine you'll find it acceptable."
About half an hour later, I walked by and a van pulled up with four people right out of the slums of Bangalore - "You don't need to show us the room, I'm certain it will be fine."
"I think you're right." said the clerk.
LOL!
Did that person spell F*** correctly? That’s an asset actually. Most public high school students nowadays can’t even spell “you”.
he just said it to me. I didn’t get a chance to check out his spelling. Darn. :o).
I once lived in a small town in Georgia. Every single East Indian I ran across was named Patel. That included one girl who was an outstanding student.
As soon as I saw the words motel and Georgia, Patel just came to my mind.
If the job applicant was fluent in Pakistani, he just might have gotten the job.
Patels and Pakistanis are mortal enemies.
Portrait of poor interviewing skills.
Here's the portrait. But I don't think it of poor interviewing skills.
A.K. is the one on the right, wearing his interviewin' shirt.
Someone told me that Patel means inn keeper?
One of them moved here and found out how much easier it was to run a hotel than walk behind a plow.
He brought over his brother who brought over his cousin who brought over his nephew who...
Same way most of our local taxi drivers are Ethiopian, roach coaches are run by Vietnamese, and the Cambodians run the donut shops (at least here in Silicon Valley).
The job in the new country depends on where one of your relatives has an in Inn...
The Patels also own alot of gas stations. The local Patel in Sasser, GA is a very good guy and runs a good store.
