Obama to Unveil an Ambitious Budget Plan
The Washington Post ^ | February 21, 2009 | Lori Montgomery and Ceci Connolly

Posted on 02/21/2009 12:05:38 PM PST by Baladas

President Obama is putting the finishing touches on an ambitious first budget that seeks to cut the federal deficit in half over the next four years, primarily by raising taxes on business and the wealthy and by slashing spending on the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, administration officials said.

In addition to tackling a deficit swollen by the $787 billion stimulus package and other efforts to ease the nation's economic crisis, the budget blueprint will press aggressively for progress on the domestic agenda Obama outlined during the presidential campaign. This would include key changes to environmental policies and a major expansion of health coverage that Obama hopes to enact later this year.

A summary of Obama's budget request for the fiscal year that begins in October will be delivered to Congress on Thursday, with the complete, multi-hundred-page document to follow in April. But Obama plans to unveil his goals for scaling back record deficits and rebuilding the nation's costly and inefficient health care system Monday, when he addresses more than 100 lawmakers and budget experts at a White House summit on restoring "fiscal responsibility" to Washington

Massively increase spending on immoral Socialist social programs and pay for it by massive tax increase and reducing our national security.

It's becoming an old saw, but “Elections Have Consequences” folks!

Thanks a lot to all the “purists” who stayed home on election day. You sure made your points.

Hoover raised taxes to balance budget, Dems ocked him for decades. FDR then did it, with the downturn of 1937-38 the result. Now, this guy, who said HE WOULD NOT after the recession was declared in the campaign. He is gonna push this economy completely over the cliff.

[Wash Post: "...ambitious plan..."]

If this had been a Republican plan, it would have been a "...dangerous scheme..."

Didn’t Obama blast the Bush Administration for doubling the national debt in 8 years. Obama is going to increase it by 45% over what he inherited in just 4 years. What’s wrong with this picture?

Not only that, after signing the $800B Porkuls, he went on to blast the Bush Admin for the massive deficit he "inherited". The guy has balls bigger than an elephant's.

Where to begin?

When is it that the government will get the H**L out of our lives? Defend me against terrorist lunatics and others that threaten America's interests and our homeland. Make sure the roads are smooth, and make sure everyones' rights are not violated by others. How friggin' difficult is it to do *just* that?

At one time, the opportunities in America were limitless... All you had to do was use your imagination, some hard work, and perseverance. Each day these opportunities become increasingly limited because some slacker believes that his piece of the "pie" has been taken by a hard-working, successful individual. Liberals, your "pie" is not finite (well, it wasn't at one time--who knows nowadays?) those who are hard-working and successful did not take someone else's share of the "pie" no matter how much you try to convince yourself otherwise.

If one has grown up under hard circumstances, how is that my fault? If he or she needs to work harder in spite of those circumstances, that should be applauded! They should not be made victims and patted on the back while giving away freebies from Uncle Sugar. Unfortunately, there are those that espouse the "how-can-there-be-poor-and-downtrodden-in-the-richest-country-in-the-world?" view and abhor the thought that the United States would have people living poverty while others do not. The poor and downtrodden have been on this earth for thousands of years, they come from a variety of circumstances in which they find themselves poor. However, there are a good number of "poor and downtrodden" that refuse to work and live off the sweat of the others that DO work. Liberals, do you really BELIEVE that conservatives WANT people to be poor?! Conservatives want people to utilize their God-give talents in any way they see fit (as long as it does not violate the rights of someone else). Conservatives want people across the entire spectrum to be successful, because everyone CAN BE successful! Liberals, you want these people to live in abject poverty by continually rewarding bad choices--in perpetuity. Conservatives want to see success in others, because that breeds a more polite society, rapid economic growth, rapid increases in charitable contributions (which truly benefit the poor) and true societal progress! Liberals, it is impossible to control equality of outcome--unless it is by force. Unfortunately, our most recent election demonstrates that this is what the people want--forced equality; where some are more equal than others.

Read it closely. There is a statement in it referencing the nationalization of health care.

Those are tea party words in my opinion. We pay for our health care, we pay for our insurance, DO NOT touch my doctor and my health care. Several responses I received while emailing and calling Senators, etc. during the protest of the stimulus before it was passed, said it would in no way affect us if we already have health care and our data would not be put into some robotic government computer.

Do you really think the huge deficits run up by Reagan and Bush were such an improvement, not to mention the shift to blind deregualtion that let those Wall Street fat cats destroy the entire world’s economy. I don’t know if O will do better, but I doubt he will do worse even if he is secretly trying.

You can't even try to sound conservative. A liberal is amongst us. And you and your kind are destroying our economy. Reagan ended the cold war without firing a single shot. Bush...yes, there is no excuse for him. But you left out Clinton - foolish oversight for someone pretending to belong here. And you showed your true colors again by making the US responsible for the entire world. We are only responsible for ourselves and our own depression that Obama will create and mismanage.

Thanks for outing yourself on ZERO. We knew we had trolls that were here from DU and other places since they would vote for ZERO in the polls. No conservative I know would make a comment like yours. Raise taxes on wealthy and business people — yeah right. Who does he think pays most of the taxes now and what is his definition of wealthy. Why should anyone want to make more money if the ZERO Government is going to take more away

In his weekly radio and Internet address today, Obama expressed determination to "get exploding deficits under control"

Obama just added 4 Trillion to the national debt this week.

Are there really millions of Americans stupid enough to buy into this crap, or am I in a Twilight Zone episode?
