A FR post from July 2008 notes that an informant dropped a dime on this guy (yep, he's an illegal) mere weeks after she disappeared.

Lots of bad police work detailed there as well.

According to that July 2008 FR post/article you linked to, Condit paid the guy to murder Levy. I wonder if they're still thinking that at this point.

"On Oct. 19, 2001, authorities questioned the informant claiming Guandique admitted to the murder. The informant told police the Salvadoran was depressed and confided in him one day in the jail yard. According to the informant, Guandique said he murdered a woman named Chandra Levy in the park – and that Condit paid him $25,000 to kill her.

The unidentified man said Guandique first got drunk and high on drugs, and then he found Levy jogging on a path in the place Condit told him to go. According to the story, the illegal alien hid, jumped out and stabbed her in her neck and abdomen. Levy stumbled to the ground, and Guandique buried her body in the woods, leaving the knife inside her body. The $25,000 was then sent to the man's relatives in El Salvador..."

Wooa! Your article says the guy’s name is ‘Igman Andique’, while the July 2008 says ‘Guandique’.

Actually, the names are quite similiar, 'Guandique' vs 'Andique'.

The case has stumped police for years and ended the career of California Congressman Gary Condit after he was romantically linked to the 24-year-old from Modesto.

It's always a pleasure to witness the destruction of a congresscritter's career. All the more so, should it be unjust!

Could they be teasing Condit to see what he does now?

Condit is involved in some way.

He prepared a timeline with great gaps, lies, and crossed days on it for the police.

He found out Chandra was missing a couple days later from her parents, said he would immediately call the authorities and get something done, but did nothing for some time (I can’t remember how long).

He went to awkwardly weird lengths to hide things — when his flight attendant GF had questions about him and this missing girl on TV, he returned her call right away, from a faraway middle-of-nowhere McDonalds on the ONLY day he ever missed a House vote. On a different occasion, he drove miles out of the way to deposit a McDonald’s bag in the trash, and when someone saw him do it and retrieved the bag, it contained an expensive man’s watch from Beverly Hills.

Chandra had confided in only one person about their affair - her aunt. She told her aunt that she wanted to stay in D.C. and marry him. She was in the process of having to move back home after her internship was over, when she got a call, searched on her computer the area of the Rock Park (where she was eventually found), and left her apartment without any I.D. on her (as Condit always requested her to do). She called her aunt first and left a message, saying that she had some exciting news for her.

It all points to Chandra being told something great was going to happen (he would leave his wife, perhaps?), and to meet him at this park.

Condit told a different paramour to call a certain number, should he die in flagrante... He worked hard to keep his double life separate.

Every day that summer, things were getting hotter and hotter, closer and closer to Condit being found involved in what was looking like a murder case.

Then Mohammed Atta and friends came to town and blew Condit’s little problems right out of the papers. Yes, when Congress shakily gathered on the Capitol steps on 9/11 and sang “God Bless America,” Gary Condit was the only one smiling.

This case was forgotten by the public for awhile. I always felt that Condit was connected somehow.

That case was bizarre from the start. All kinds of strange rumors sprang up. There was something about people missing their thumbs, but I don't recall the details.

I think this guy had emerged as a possible suspect back then.
