Police prepare arrest in Chandra Levy case

Police are preparing to make an arrest in the murder of Congressional Intern Chandra Levy...

...an inmate in the D.C. corrections system has told other prisoners that he killed Levy after seeing her in the park where her body was found.

The inmate is identified as Igman Andique. He is in jail for attacks on other women in that same park.

The case has stumped police for years and ended the career of California Congressman Gary Condit after he was romantically linked to the 24-year-old from Modesto.

A FR post from July 2008 notes that an informant dropped a dime on this guy (yep, he's an illegal) mere weeks after she disappeared.

Lots of bad police work detailed there as well.

If this all comes down to the end....and this is the guy, then someone ought to make a movie over the episode. For days, there were various political figures shaking in their boots....because they also had implications in the Levy sleep-around episode.

According to that July 2008 FR post/article you linked to, Condit paid the guy to murder Levy. I wonder if they're still thinking that at this point.

"On Oct. 19, 2001, authorities questioned the informant claiming Guandique admitted to the murder. The informant told police the Salvadoran was depressed and confided in him one day in the jail yard. According to the informant, Guandique said he murdered a woman named Chandra Levy in the park – and that Condit paid him $25,000 to kill her.

The unidentified man said Guandique first got drunk and high on drugs, and then he found Levy jogging on a path in the place Condit told him to go. According to the story, the illegal alien hid, jumped out and stabbed her in her neck and abdomen. Levy stumbled to the ground, and Guandique buried her body in the woods, leaving the knife inside her body. The $25,000 was then sent to the man's relatives in El Salvador..."

"ecause they also had implications in the Levy sleep-around episode."

Was that the deal? To be honest, I was stationed overseas at the time and didn't follow it that closely. Was she a "popular" figure with the Washington ruling class?

Supposedly there was a ring of congressmen that were kind-of involved in an informal sex club of some kind. A rumor at the time was that John Kasich and Condit were friends and that’s why Kasich left congress.

I found FR while reading about the case and the political implications.

Wooa! Your article says the guy’s name is ‘Igman Andique’, while the July 2008 says ‘Guandique’.

That is scandalous. Washington is the pit of evil for so many reason, not the least of which is the sexual peccadilloes of US Congressman and Senators - Chuck Robb anyone?

I wrote: Your article says the guy's name is 'Igman Andique', while the July 2008 says 'Guandique'.

Actually, the names are quite similiar, 'Guandique' vs 'Andique'.

I’m going from July ‘08 to now. All I remember as strange was the congressman tossing a wrist watch in the trash.

Click though the earlier FR link to the WND article. Both his first name and last name are only slightly different from that WND article to this KGO article, and the pictures in each article remove all doubt.

Note: The KGO article linked here has been substantially rewritten and expanded since my initial post, including, notably, an apparent correction of the spelling of the suspect’s name to match the earlier WND article.

Yep just imagine being Condit’s laundress if the DC cops announce that this guy did indeed $25K to his family in El Salvador at about that time.
