Darwin's legacy? (re: New York Post chimp/porkulus cartoon)

Is this Darwin’s legacy?

A cartoon in an American paper, the New York Post, has brought fresh attention to the race problems in some sections of society. The cartoon shows a chimpanzee shot dead by police with a caption apparently referring to the new American President Obama - (edit: although later denied that Obama was the target).  Note from UD Admin:  As has been pointed out in the comments, the chimp in this cartoon was a pet chimp shot by police in Connecticut.  It was never intended to represent Obama or any other human.  The cartoonist was stunned over the uproar.

Where does the idea that human beings are related to apes come from? It comes straight from Darwinism. There is some irony that the left loves both Darwin and Obama, but Darwinism leads to racism and fascism where the African is considered less evolved and closer to apes than the Caucasian. It is time for the left to address honestly the dark side of Darwinism. See this article on the Telegraph.

This cartoon, or rather the reaction to this cartoon, is a clear indication of just how big a business finding a reason to be insulted and aggrieved has become. The people who took offense to this cartoon did so not because they were offended. They took offense because it served their political purpose to manufacture offense and outrage so they could more plausibly demand the authority to censor anything their opponents say. It doesn't matter what we say or do, they will label it hate speech and then demand that such hate be outlawed. Its for the children, you know!!

Its tyranny disguised as righteous indignation. History is full of examples of tyrants who used grievances, real or imagined, to whip up support for himself and his cause. This is no different.

I blame it on Curious George. His cuteness made kids want to keep monkeys as pets. ;)

My guess; the Stamford chimp was on VIAGRA.

The cartoonist meant Nancy Pelosi, the real writer of the so called Stimulus Package, as the downed chimp. His irony means that a million chimps at typewriters, with enough time, can rewrite the classic works of Jimmy Carter.

A berserk chimp at that. Is the cartoonist saying that the last stimulus bill was written by a berserk ape? Before we go leaping to any wild conclusions we need to ask, "who wrote the last stimulus bill?" Judging from all the reported antics going on around its creation, I would say the cartoonist had it approx. correct.

Apparently my opinion of the clown Reverend Sharpton had to be removed.
I guess it might have offended him legitimately.

It's good to know somebody is looking out for those who are too weak minded to exist in the presence of my opinion. I understand why it serves no purpose to point out the handicap of the challenged. I guess I didn't realize the Moderator thinks Blacks like Sharpton fall under this same need of protection.

Sharpton, I never saw you say word #1 when Jorge Boosh was pictured as a monkey. So, STFU.

Actually it comes from Carl Linnaeus

It does not please (you) that I've placed Man among the Anthropomorpha, but man learns to know himself. Let's not quibble over words. It will be the same to me whatever name we apply. But I seek from you and from the whole world a generic difference between man and simian that [follows] from the principles of Natural History. I absolutely know of none. If only someone might tell me a single one!

That's Carl Linnaeus the creationist, btw.

Man, GGG's posting standards get lower every day. This is from some goofy blog and the writer makes absolutely no point at all, except to incorrectly interpret the cartoon and then make some baseless accusations about essentially nothing, that turn out to be wholly incorrect anyway.

Good one, GGG. Did racism exist before 1859? Just curious

I read the letters to the paper in the Friday edition, and it isn’t surprising that libtards incorrectly interpreted the cartoon, and in knee-jerk fashion assumed the worst of intentions.

There are many idiots in this country, and they continue to expose themselves with each passing day.

To the Post’s credit, the letters it chose to publish were about 2/3 against the cartoon.

i say, “if the shoe fits...”

First of all, Carl Linnaeus was a staunch Christian and Creationist. So the whole notion that Linnaeus thought man came from apes is a non-starter. Second, the quote you found is a response from Linnaeus to fellow botanist Johann Georg Gmelin, who objected to Linnaeus calling humans “anthropomorpha” (human-like) as illogical. Linnaeus’ justification was that humans are “human-like” because “man learns to know himself” and that we are generically (in the taxonimic sense) similar to simians. But it doesn’t change the fact that Linnaeus was a creationist who believed in a young earth and that each biblical kind was created separately. As such, he believed that man was created separately from the creation of simians.

In short, Darwin still reigns (and will always be remembered) as the pseudo-scientific med-school dropout who dupped the scientific establishment into making an ape out of man.

I dunno about that.

Seems to have worked quite well for Reverend Darwin.
