various | February 20, 2009

Posted on 02/20/2009 3:12:35 PM PST by EveningStar

"Taking Chance" airs tomorrow at 8PM on HBO.

Taking Chance is based on a true story about a Marine officer who escorts the body of a dead Marine home from Iraq.

Michael Medved has given it 4 stars (out of 4) and called it the first good movie about the Iraq war.

Army casualty assistance officers have also praised the movie.

I just finished watching it: Bacon was “letter perfect”-as was the entire cast-and the production.

I’m 75,an ex-Marine, and was on my 3rd glass of wine (usual limit is 2), which may explain why I spent so much time reaching for Kleenex.

Right up there with the John Wayne movies !!

Incidentally, those who “boycotted” the movie because Bacon supported Obama....well: let’s say they cheated themselves out of a superb experience so they could stay “pure” to whatever in hell they are saving themselves for !

Ugh.

Respect for whom? An Obama supporter? Pleeeaassee!! I respect none of them, especially at this point when they elected people who increased the deficit humongously. They support robbing me of my money, killing babies, and appeasing terrorists.

Look, there are many actors whom I can enjoy watching on the screen. But I don't respect them in real life.

Many people liked "Saving Private Ryan". Does that mean I should respect Tom Hanks who spends money to get gay marriage to become the law of the land and who wants to make Charlie Wilson the hero of Afganistan but says nothing of Ronald Reagan's heroism? No way. I don't repect any lib in Hollywood who backed Obama.

Including Bacon and his wife.

Oh, for Heaven's sake.

I have plenty of respect for the military, who don't deserve to have people supporting the O-Idiot for their CIC, who is cutting the military budget by 10%, but whom Bacon supported.

My comments on this thread are against Obama supporters alone.

Get real.

Whether you agree with Bacon’s politics or not, he was -as I said “letter perfect” in the role ; and if you are skipping the performance for “political” reasons, you are cheating yourself.

(Frankly, I don’t give a hoot what you do ; and, if this declaration offends you, so be it.)

For some reason many people admire actors just because they can act. I don't. I may enjoy watching them but that doesn't translate to admiration, in fact often times the opposite.

If I had HBO, I might have watched this film.I usually don't skip movies just for political reasons. But I don't admire actors who play in movies unless I respect their values in real life (ex: Gary Sinise).

Bacon is someone I do NOT admire because he is a socialist. You may admire socialists...I definitely do not.

Why in the world would it offend me?

Kevin Bacon was superb in this movie and showed the utmost respect for the marines, America, and Amnerican people.

Finally a quality movie from HBO. Dont let yourself miss this because of of a hang up from the past.

Old enough to not get taken in by celebrity.

Old enough to not admire socialists, especially those in Hollywood.

Old enough to know better.

Not sure what in the world the past has to do with it. The present is what we should be dealing with.

I made an initial comment. People responded. My responses back are "hijacking"? Gimme a break.

Wow. Some people really are blinded by celebrity. Really.

As I said if I had HBO I may have watched it.

I have HBO (still) and I watched this.

It was very well done. Very poignant and very respectful.

I teared up more than once . . . filled a renewed gratitude for the sacrifice of our most honorable men and women in the military.

I don't know if this will be available on DVD. If it is, it is more than worth the cost.
