With Mika Brzezinski off in the south of France, it looks like Morning Joe has recruited Nancy Snyderman as the shows reliably liberal voice. Yesterday, as noted here, NBCs Chief Medical Editor came out squarely for universal health care [and rationing]. Today, Snyderman blamed Californias financial woes on Prop 13the measure that capped property taxes in the state.
NANCY SNYDERMAN: I lived in California for 17 years, and I think the 60s boom was hurt in large part by Prop 13. It froze property taxes. The lauded California [inaudible] went under
That stirred Joe Scarborough into action . . .

Mika sub Snyderman hatin’ on Prop 13 ping to Today show list.
The 60s boom??? Prop 13 was passed in 1978! It did not freeze property taxes. It put an upper limit on the valuation of property and the valuation is allowed to increase 2% annually. The value is reset each time the property is sold or if major modifications are made to the property.
She is obviously uninformed on this matter, but that does not matter if you are a brain dead liberal.
I’ll add a gratuitous swipe here. That picture of her seems to reek of smugness, superiority and condescension.
The sixties boom in housing “values” is what created Prop 13. My aunt and her husband were both school teachers and had lived in California for over 30 years, having retired in the early mid-1960s with their home paid off. After he died, the housing “values” went up and up and property taxes were right behind. Her taxes alone were more than house payments had ever been, and exceeded any amount a school teacher pensiorer could reasonably pay. She had to sell her home by 1973 and live in rental mobile home.
I well remember what she had to say about Proposition 13: “Oh, if it had only passed sooner, I could have saved my home.” I’d consider her an expert on Proposition 13.
These arrogant leftists don’t care about anyone but themselves and possibly their fellow “intelligentsia.” That’s why they are called ‘Rats.
For instance, Mr. Inspecorette and I were the original owners of our house that was built in 1974 - we were paying less than $500/year. We sold in '05 for $475K - this means the new owner is paying $4750!
As a medical doctor, you can imagine her superior intellect in all matters cultural, social, financial and historical. Therefore, if she says the California '60's boom was quashed by Prop. 13, who you gonna believe? - A medical doctor who was a teenager in Ft. Wayne, IN during the '60's or the historical record and memories of the California homeowners who grew up in California during that era?
Exactly. And anyone living out here knows that property taxes here are already outrageous.
Yup, that’s our situation. We bought in 2003 in the low 400’s, so we’re paying now over $5000 a year in property taxes here in California.
Meanwhile my sister in Colorado is paying about $1800.
uh, sorry. I'll show myself to the door now.
My parents and people like them voted yes on prop 13 because they were getting close to losing their homes, just like your aunt.
The one thing people may want to consider. Have your properties revalued and go to the county and have them lower your taxes. If the value has gone down by 1/3, you will pay lower taxes. The State will hate it but they deserve it. If they don’t raise taxes, most people will not go this route but they should if they get ticked off enough.
People like this are going to spark the next major conflagration in our country. When it happens, they will be completely clueless about why it happened. Taxes will be a BIG part.
Thommas, I see that you knew her in high school. You have my sympathy.
Seriously, every high school should have a few like this so that when the world history class covers the French revolution, the reasons why are greatly clarified.
A truth about Prop 13 is how many people who are liberal democrats had their hides saved because of it. I know at least three families who kept their houses because of it. If it hadn’t passed, they would be living in trailer parks or out of state. Prop 13 was the one and only conservative measure they ever voted for. And it’s never occurred to them that they and theirs are still being screwed in other areas.
NANCY SNYDERMAN: I lived in California for 17 years, and I think the 60s boom was hurt in large part by Prop 13. It froze property taxes.IOW, she's an idiot.
