Aren’t they the first to get the bill through Congress?

Barack Obama as president of only Washington DC to me would be the ultimate irony.

“Barack Obama as president of only Washington DC to me would be the ultimate irony.”

Why would Washington DC be allowed to exist on its own, without the rest of the United States? The land was ceded for use as the seat of the United States Governement.

Excellent. Now if the morons in my state will get off their butts, we might get another state.

For some people, the slightest inconvenience and increase in taxes is too much to ask for greatly improved liberty.

It will be a BIG THING for any state to peacefully be allowed to leave the Union and go on its own. This implies a long transition. If we can keep the process peaceful, the price will be a lot lower than that paid by those who suggested secession from Britain in the mid-1700’s. If all we have to pay is a double motor fuel tax for a decade, it is a bargain.

While I understand your technical point, the idea hints at the sad truth: the federal government has become a parasitic Leviathan with its own priorities and demands.

Those who cheer on Leviathan have long used the language of ownership. The best examples are the times when tax cuts are reported in terms of “costing government too much”, as if government has a preemptive right to all your income and assets and that you should just be very grateful that it lets you keep what it does. With all this talk about UBS’s settlement with the Treasury over account information, Leviathan decrees that all Persons under her control must disclose every bank account and balance. There is no such thing as financial privacy to a parasite who needs access to as much money as it can locate and tax.

What is the definition of a slave? A person who cannot escape his master. US tax law now requires US Persons who give up their citizenship and move to some other country the obligation to report and pay income taxes for another 10 years after they move away. Further, US law gives the government the power to search your home and possessions without a warrant, should you even indicate that you intend on leaving the country.

How much is it worth to slay such a parasite? And before anyone responds, consider that the recent “stimulus bill” will tax all of us via direct taxes and inflation, for such a long time that this new obligation cannot be satisfied in the lifetime of anyone on this forum and maybe not even by the amount of taxes it that their children will pay over their entire lifetimes either.

Just keep your eyes peeled here on FR. Also, you can do a search on news.google.com every few days for some artfully chosen keywords such as “state sovereign resolution” or “sovereign amendment”, etc.

Agreed, but....if 50 States were involved in session, I would say they were “hanging together” and basically saying “Enough is enough”.

The governor is a Democrat but he recently fought to overturn a federal court ruling allowing companies to ban employees from having guns in their vehicles.

That wasn’t worded very well. He basically fought for gun owners and won.

“going to PAY ATTENTION to it?”

That’s a good question. I asked the rep who introduced the bill and he said something like, “there’s a chance it will be ignored which is why we need to hold their feet to the fire.” He also said it doesn’t require the Governor’s signature. Which I think he’d probably sign it. He’s a rat but knows where most Oklahomans are politically.
