WASHINGTON The Obama administration and the new Congress are quickly handing over to Republicans the same "culture of corruption" issue that Democrats used so effectively against the GOP before coming to power.
Freshman Sen. Roland Burris, D-Ill., is only the latest embarrassment.
Senate Democrats accepted Burris because they believed what he told them: He was clean. Burris now admits he tried to raise money for Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who authorities say sought to sell President Barack Obama's former Senate seat.
"The story seems to be changing day by day," Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., said Wednesday.
The political mess for the Democratic Party, however, isn't Burris' conduct alone; it's the pattern that has developed so quickly over the past few months.
_The chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee, Rep. Charles Rangel, D-N.Y., is the subject of a House ethics investigation. It's partly focused on his fundraising practices for a college center in his name, his ownership financing of a resort property in the Dominican Republic and his financial disclosure reports.
_Federal agents raided two Pennsylvania defense contractors that were provided millions of dollars in federal funding by Rep. John Murtha, D-Pa., chairman of the House Appropriations defense subcommittee.
_Blagojevich was arrested Dec. 9 on federal charges, including allegations he schemed to sell the Senate seat to the highest bidder.

I don't know about that. The Dems have two very powerful allies. The MSM will say whatever talking points the DNC hands out to them. And they also have those lily-livered Republicans that will not say anything except, "Tut, tut! I hope they are more careful in the future."
Using corruption as a campaign issue works only if the party using it first publicly cleans its ranks of corruption. Otherwise, it will come back to bite you in the hindend. Just as it is doing to the Dems right now.
That would be “lack of ethics”.
LLS
The people won't put up with a lack of ethics, you know.
I say the only thing that will fix this - Bring them home.
One time I was listening to C Span and heard a wishy washy mealy mouthed middle of the road Rep. say he goes by the 80-20 rule. If a bill is 80% good he votes for it. I thought to myself at the time I would have loved to ask a follow up question of “What if we applied the same standard to lets say firefighters or Sergeons?”
It got me thinking - Most of the corruption is because of Washington Dc. They can’t even fix the school system that they are in charge of. The worst schools in the US are run by guess who? Where everything they try is 20-80.
There is no reason for these politicians to move to Dc. Even seemingly ethical (I know it is an oxymoron) pols. turn into status-seeking money grabbing amoral jerks.
In the age of electronic communication they should be forced to go by the 80-20 rule. 80% of their time and congressional budget should be spent at home. Think of the talented people that could run for office if they didn’t have to give up their homes and uproot their families. The more time these yahoos spend with each other the more havoc they wreak on the taxpayers.
They are acting like children who have eaten to much candy and are throwing temper tantrums demanding more. They should be forced to go home and take a nap.
Does this author think that dictators like Stalin, Mao and Hitler were worried about ethics? The liberals aren’t either.
******Senate Democrats accepted Burris because they believed what he told them: He was clean.*******
You are wrong son: Democrats knew this guy for the douchebag he is. He was so dirty even Harry Reid tried to axe him. Then they realised they needed that vote.
Don’t believe for one minute that Democrats didnt know what they were dealing with.
The current crop of liberals is of that same totaletarian ilk, it appears.
Of course they did. The whole situation reeks of opportunism and hypocrisy.
What did they expect?
He's a democrat, they knew what they were getting.
Remember this?
"Why did you bite me? I took you in, I cared for you. I fed you. You said you would't bite me."
"You knew I was a snake when you picked me up."
You're absolutely correct. They needed Burris' vote on the god-awful porkulus package. Now that it's passed and Obama has signed it, they're free to throw Burris under the bus.
