Today NSIDC [National Snow and Ice Center] announced they had discovered the reason [for an abrupt drop in Arctic sea ice]. The sensor on the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) satellite they use had degraded and now apparently failed to the point of being unusable. Compounding the bad news they discovered it had been in slow decline for almost two months, which caused a bias in the arctic sea ice data that underestimated the total sea ice by 500,000 square kilometers. This will likely affect the January NSIDC sea ice totals.

The satellite failure, of course, is due to global warming so in net terms it’s a wash /sarc.
Another “correction”.
This “error” enabled the Global Warming idiots to go through the election and transition seasons declaring that Artic sea ice is declining at record levels, etc. And now that nobody is paying attention to them, they issue the correction.
How “convenient”.
of course we wont hear anything about this...the GW is total bunk science...even fringe science
if it was the other direction of course...
it would be all sackcloth and ashes, burning virgins and screaming conspiracy...
Fortunately - certainly NOT because the AGW zealots delayed their press releases until the erroneous data was found, checked and removed! - no press release was pushed on the gullible public about this ‘notlost” lost sea ice.
BTW - the error was found - not by internal audits by NASA or NRDC - but by external “non-UN non-IPCC-certified non-peer-reviewed non-scientific” observers.
To give them credit, they found the error when it was reported by a number of people when it was obvious there was a massive breakdown in the data. I noticed it myself for the past week as I look at the ice concentration on a daily basis. Here are more details on what happened:

Frankly, the whole Global Warming debate has become so political, I don’t trust a damn thing anybody says anymore. The “scientists” have their thumbs on the scale at every turn. And the Russians, who have the most to gain by promoting the scare, because they have carbon credits to sell when nobody else does, are the source of most of the anomolous warming data.
James Hansen must have gotten control of Rove’s weather machine and aimed it at the satellite to blow out the sensor.
It’s unbelievable (because lies are unbelievable) that they didn’t notice. Here’s my post from 6 weeks ago:

I participate in weather forums
then maybe you can help me. What is going on at NSIDC site?

The Etch-a Sketch graph now has a negative inflection for last years ice accumulation (it wasnt there before today)and they are late in the month for their summary. I think theyre having a battle over who gets to twist the dials of the Etch a Sketch. They all attacked the guy who was showing the ice cap growing too fast in November and had the curve level off so it wouldnt get near the 30 year line. Then the truth faction counter attacked and started estimating faster growth again. Then they compromised and decided to have the line coincide with last years. But now they have that newly imposed dip in last years line to deal with the ice is melting in the dead of winter?? I think the NSIDC is in meltdown.

Remember our bet? I wonder who would have won if the race weren’t rigged?

I would guess November 21.

October 24, 2008 versus October 24, 1999.

This explains everything; so Dr. Hansen and Al Gore were fitted with the same sensors ten years ago...I knew there must be a logical explanation.
Yep, I do remember that. The ice was growing at a record rate when we picked the dates. I still think I would have been closer. I don’t think the satellite went bad until sometime in late December, but who knows?
I wonder if they will get the satellite working by the time the Arctic ice starts melting. One thing they didn’t explain very well is, is the the satellite data from the same satellite for the South Pole? Because that shows it has also been decreasing a faster rate in the past month than it had been.
I still think those graphs are drawn with a guy with an Etch a Sketch. Seriously, I’ll bet you’re dealing with Global warming hype day and night with your heat and fires. Hope all is well with your area.
I think you do have a good point that if people like us noticed it, they should have caught it sooner. The problem is that most of these sites that receive the raw data first, believe in Global Warming, so it takes something to hit them in the head before they start doubting the data. I have a friend who is now calling it, for short, GWR (Global Warming Religion).
Of course, all the GWR nuts are saying the fires were caused by global warming (about half were arsonists). They discount we are having record rains in the Northeast —the receive 14 inches of rain three days ago just north of Sydney which broke the drought there.
Many of the residents are blaming the Greens and the Global Warming activists for the massive destructions of the homes as they were not allowed to clear the brush and cut down trees in the towns like Marysville. So there is a big fight between he activist and the residents.
yeah, that’s the funny thing about GLOBAL warming— first it’s here, then it’s there, you can just never quite catch up with it. Hey, sounds like that old concept, “weather.”
LOL! I went to a website yesterday to see what was happening with Arctic sea ice and they had an article about Jan sea ice and how expansion had effectively stopped for Jan. They blamed it on changing wind patterns.
Nothing wrong here that a pencil won’t correct. Ain’t them pencils something?
As a golfer, I can tell you that the best "wood" in my golf bag is the pencil.
