Alaska officials on Wednesday ruled that Alaska governor and former GOP vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin must pay back taxes to the IRS.
The exact amount the governor must pay is not yet known, but the Associated Press estimates she owes taxes on more than $17,000 in per-diem expenses.
State employees who live more than 50 miles away from Alaska's capital, Juneau, are entitled to state aid in the form of per-diem payments. Juneau is approximately 600 miles from Palin's home town of Wasilla, making the governor eligible for the payments.
But before she accepted the vice presidential nomination, Palin charged the state for over 300 nights spent in her Wasilla home, not the governor's mansion in Juneau. Her expenses usually amounted to $60 per day.
On Wednesday, Alaska state officials decided that the per-diem expenses should be counted as taxable income. Palin's spokesman, Bill McAllister, said the governor would pay the taxes.
Given this, the headline is disgustingly misleading...but it does fit the agenda of CBS.
That is correct. She did it several months ago. The board's ruling does not apply to Alaska lawmakers.
I thought the same thing. I guess the state’s determination of what type income it is or if it is income might have some influence with the IRS, but they can’t make that decision.
No problem. Who in the hell can figure out this stupid corrupt dizzy income tax thing anyway?
Notice the pressholes turn it around to make the reader think that she was somehow nabbed for evasion.
Journalism is dead.
One of the huge differences is that the right hates taxes while the libs embrace them and tell people how great taxes are.
The 0bama/msm playbook - When all else fails, try to take down Palin.
I wonder if sometimes she just sits backs and laughs at the fact that her detractors are obsessed with her. They are like the loser guy in high school who goes around telling everyone that the good looking girl who rejected his pitiful advances is a slut.
If you all want to understand why the media continues to berate this woman..here is what I read on mypalpalin.com
MEDIA EXEC ADMITS
NEW ANTI-PALIN CONSPIRACY
A private source at a major New York daily newspaper has admitted on condition of anonymity that the paper is one of several working closely with an army of young bloggers and at least one TV network to ensure that the flow of negative publicity targeting Sarah Palin continues unabated for the next four years.
The thinking is, We cant afford to let her bounce back, he said. If shes all shined up and ready to go in 2012, and if ordinary people have already started to rebel against the consequences of some of Baracks more extreme economic and social policies, were in deep trouble. The decision has been made at the highest levels to keep Palin down, at any cost and by any means necessary.
And as far as the taxes are concerned, OLD NEWS, she said months ago that she wanted an investigation to see if she owed anything, yeah she was the one that initiated the whole thing, unlike people surrounding the Marxist, who do everything to hide it
>>What a BS story... no state can determine IRS (federal) policy on taxation.<<
That is what I was thinking too.
Alaska decided this TODAY? And Palin was supposed to have known in advance that her enemies were going to change the law so that the IRS could punish her?
Yes, the SeeBS headline is misleading, of course.
“On Wednesday, Alaska state officials decided that the per-diem expenses should be counted as taxable income. Palin’s spokesman, Bill McAllister, said the governor would pay the taxes.”
it also appears that these taxes may be from the 2008 tax year. Of course the story doesnt mention that, but it refers to expenses from before she acccepted the VP.
What tax year is this for?
And naturally the dems want it to be broadcasted nationally for a level playing field. Palin is a straight shooter who has taken Alaska where we wish this country had gone.
These people, the Rinos and the dems, are terrified of Sarah.
If this is for 2008, there is, quite literally, no story here.
Amazing.
They have to retractively change the taxable status of every “per diem’ ever paid to any public offical for as far back as they have been paid.....
This is going to pi$$ off an awful lot of current and former state employees...
Otherwise it’s a ‘selective determination’ which is illegal.
I have to agree with her having to pay the back taxes for this. Most other people w/ jobs and allowances paid to them like this would have to declare their stipend as income.
Ping.
