Doesn’t the United States make anything anymore?
The Buffalo News ^ | 2/17/2009 | Stephen Manning

The U. S. by far remains the world’s leading manufacturer by value of goods produced. It hit a record $1.6 trillion in 2007 — nearly double the $811 billion in 1987. For every $1 of value produced in China’s factories, America generates $2.50.

I don’t believe it because the facts don’t support increased manufacturing level

What if I posted the facts on US Manufacturing output, would that change your mind?

...one has only to look at the trade deficits to know this.

Not at all. The trade deficit is a function of two numbers, imports and exports. First, one could manufacture a whole bunch, and not export it. 2nd, one could manufacture a ton, and export it, but import more. So, the trade deficit in no way negates my statement that the US is the largest manufacturer, and that manufacturing output is growing.

..although there is plenty of evidence out there for my point of view...and it’s not fake statistics that counts business that has nothing to do with manufacturing in the numbers either

Like what?

DU = Democratic Underground. A collecting place for howling moonbats.

Not a site I generally recommend, you might get some on you. If it weren't for the fact that these people are now in charge of the asylum it'd be funny but seeing as how the DUmmies are now in charge and little Chuckie Schumer's trade policy and rants about China is now the rule it's scary as all get out.

I see a long rant but you refuse to respond to the question I posed to you. Please do not respond TILL you are ready to answer the question. What $$ amount should the minimum wage be set to?

No-just a taxpayer who is sick of subsidizing Walmart and other companies like them...they don’t pay enough for the basics of life. Thus there employees become the states responsibility while they make billions...it’s no wonder average people don’t believe in capitalism these days...where is the trickle down? Walmart did well this year, but laid people off and have not increased wages for most of their employees.

...they don’t pay enough for the basics of life

So don't work for them.

Is it really that hard to figure out? Does Wal-Mart force its employees to work at gunpoint?

Most retail, pays low wages...Walmart’s tend to be lower and they are better known. It’s unfair for the taxpayer to get stuck with paying for these workers.

Yeah, because there is so much opportunity out there in terms of jobs. No matter what, states and the feds subsidize Walmart and other retail employees...I object to this. Why should they make billions while I have to as a taxpayer provide food stamps, health insurance and subsidized housing for their workers.

I have seen the statistics and looked at what the government is calling manufacturing these days...such as McDonalds...no I do not believe that manufacturing is up and the governments free trading phony statistics won’t convince anyone with a rudimentary understanding of manufacturing.

God if Obama addressed trade which he won’t in my opinion...I would be ecstatic. It just might save this country.

I just heard a CEO of some bailed out company-don’t remember which one opine that Congress needs to take away the home tax deduction...because that would end the American romanticism with owning a home...all the CNBC weenies agreed...yeah ordinary Americans can’t have decent wages (must compete globally), no more pensions, no health care (health care is not a right!) and now should not aspire to own their homes...I don’t think it is possible to hate anyone more than I hate these Wall Street types who destroyed their companies and the economy, whine about compensations (excessive by any standard especially when they are morons)...and feel that Americans are at risk for ‘moral hazard’.

Is that Wal-Mart's fault?

No matter what, states and the feds subsidize Walmart and other retail employees...I object to this. Why should they make billions while I have to as a taxpayer provide food stamps, health insurance and subsidized housing for their workers.

FRiend, it isn't Wal-Mart who forces you to do those things. Wal-Mart can't make you do anything at all. Your anger is misdirected.

Does Wal-Mart make you pay your taxes? No. It's the government.

Does Wal-Mart take your tax money and give it to others in the form of food stamps? No. It's the government.

Do you notice a pattern here? What the government does is NOT Wal-Mart's fault. The lack of jobs available from other employers is NOT Wal-Mart's fault.

Your prayers have been answered.

Go to your favorite news outlet and type "obama fair trade". You'll find articles as recent as an hour ago as the saviour goes to Canada and proceeds to kill what's left of the economy.

Congratulations, you're both rowing the same boat, signing the same hymn and fishing off the same pier.

Are you a member of living wage . org?.

Are you a member of Obama's unionist legion supporting the "making work pay" package in the redistribution of wealth stimulus bill? Because that's what its coming down to now. The government is trying to make people think that work 'pays'! LOL NOT to think that America has been destroyed by you 'globalist free traders'.

Here is the real truth. The taxpayer pays. And pays and pays and pays for your globalist fantasy. It hasn't made the country or the world better. It is sending everyone straight into anarchy and possibly world war.

Tell us how much money Walmart spends to keep the politicians in their pockets? How much stock do the politicians own in Walmart? No, his anger isn't misdirected. Unscrupulous unethical and anti-American Walmart executives with their hearts and heads in communist china are to blame. Wal-mart is just one of the transnational corporations pushing 'affordable housing'(also known as socialism) to the government. Think freddie and fannie and taxpayer subsidies on that one.

What the government does is favor Walmart.Walmart has used the government to break down any barriers to trading with communists, and slave laborers which the people of a free country would inherently oppose. They have used the government to ensure their 'supply lines' aren't hindered by customs, and that tariffs aren't applied to their chinese master's goods. They use the government to raise taxes on American's wages to provide the social services and everything else that their underpaid workforce requires to get themselves off the hook for them, while other smaller domestic companies cannot. The relationship between Walmart and other transnational corporations is corporatist fascist. Yes, and Walmart is to blame for their participation in this anti-American ideology.
