Where did the idea of “millions of years” come from?
All of our media outlets push evolution and “millions of years” ideas on the public. Even children’s cartoons reflect evolutionary philosophy! In an episode of the cartoon SpongeBob SquarePants, entitled “SpongeBob B.C.,” the narrator begins: “Ah, dawn breaks over the primordial sea. It is here that millions of years ago, life began taking its first clumsy steps out of the darkness, opening its newly formed eyeballs to stare into the blinding light of intelligence.” Unfortunately, large segments of the church have swallowed the millions-of-years evolutionary history hook, line, and sinker. Tell me more. Resources, websites, etc. I have not considered this line of attack, but have wondered about it.
Evolution, Christianity, and a 4+ billion-year-old earth are perfectly compatible.
Why not if the Bible is silent on the matter?
The first thing that God said wasn’t “good” was that man was alone.
Everything prior to the Fall (of Adam, with a specific sin) was held in a state of perfection, with no death, disease, predation (all were plant eaters), mutations, etc. This is biblical.
God didn’t leave your option open. Just as Jesus didn’t leave open the option that He was “just a good man and prophet”.
And I believe in miracles. In fact, I have seen them.
One of the miracles I believe in and have seen is Creation. And it is a miracle whether it took 6 days or 14 billion years.
And all the scientific evidence that documents the reality of Creation says it was the latter, not the former.
Nevertheless, I believe the history recorded in the NT is factual and true, as well as ALL of the history in the OT. How can one choose which parts are factual and which parts are not?
Pretty simple.
I accept the NT as the teachings of our Lord. It does not attempt to tell us how the heavens were made, but how to make it to heaven.
The OT I see as partly spiritual, partly poetry, partly history, and partly the unifying myths and customs of an ancient culture. I take from it what works with the NT and the rest I see as curiosity or as parables, not as the infallible word of God.
You are free worship the ancient texts if you want, but in my opinion, you hang your faith on a slender thread (such as the young earth doctrine) that is not supportable by easily observed phenomena. Personally, I see that as more of a superstition than a deep and abiding faith.
If that is the case, your assertion is plausible. However, the Bible is not silent on the matter, as illustrated here:
Exodus 20:11 For in six days the LORD made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, but he rested on the seventh day. Therefore the LORD blessed the Sabbath day and made it holy.
Many choose dismiss this, however, the conext indicates that all of Genesis 1 occured in 6 days.
The Bible is allegorical in places. It is not literally inerrant. God gave us the intellectual capacity to figure out how he really did it. He’d be disappointed if we didn’t try.
Man walks up to God and asks what a million dollars is to him. And God answers, "a penny." And then he asks God what a million years is to him, and God answers, "a second."
Then he asks God if he can have a penny, and God answers, "Yes, in a second."
Ah, yes. The "it appears to be millions of years old because God made it look that way" trump card. Often played by the YEC crowd.

and that’s what you’re implying.
You have the problem that evolution relies on things SPECIFICALLY stated to not be occurring prior to man’s appearance.
Embrace evolution if you must, just don’t say God is deceptive in His special revelation of scripture.
I am neither implying nor stating any such thing, and I stand by my statement. How can you adhere to a doctrine that accepts no contrary evidence?
If you believe that God created Adam a full-fledged adult, I don't know why you would have trouble believing He created an aged earth as well.
Ex. 20:11, Shows God used the days of work and rest under the Mosaic law as pictures or representations of Genesis’ days.
If nothing else, it will be interesting to see how even-handedly the evidence gets treated - what gets included, what gets left out, what's deemed to be "powerful", and what is dismissed as "flimsy".
You skirted the answer on age, obviously I meant a total of 6000 years, and the bible was written, some of it anyway, a good deal more than 2,000 years ago. Job does NOT mention dinos BTW.

Yes also the earth is 6000 years old since people were there 6000 years ago to document that in cave paintings. Of course.

Concerning Job, one must determine what creature God was describing in hi challenge to Job in chapter 40, when He says:

Before the answer of Hippo or Elephant are offered, one must explain the sixe of the tail (sways like a cedar) and the mention that they cannot be captured by man, which both Elephants and Hippos can be (and have been historically).
Even so, it is irrelevant. If (when?) living dino's were found today, they would be expalined away as "living fossils" much like the coeleocanth, alligator and the nautilus. Just because they are not found together in the "fossil record" does NOT mean they did not coexist.
FWIW, the term "Dinosaur" was not coined until 1842, before that they were called...dragons! Strange how, the world over, in literature ancient and recent, the mention of dragons is made, since man never saw them alive?!
