Declaring its sovereignty while waiting by the mailbox for its federal stimulus check.

Exactly!! The only way to put some teeth into this is to REFUSE THE STIMULUS!!! Gov. Mark Sanford needs to man up and KEEP HIS WORD on this one, SC.

liberal yankees have no clue about history and actually think Lincoln went to war because he wanted to free the slaves.

They even think my battle flag is racist because the KKK flew it but forget the KKK flew the stars and stripes too

yankee liberals and facts never go together

Plenty of standing, the federal gov has been stomping on 10th amendment rights for decades.

The current Federal government as it stands today is an illegal usurpation of State's rights, and I'm talking about what has transpired SINCE the Civil War. Campaign Finance Reform, not allowing us to drill for our own oil, non-enforcement of our border and immigration laws, and Eminent Domain (and that's just under King Jorge) are examples of this even before all this federally sanctioned redistribution of wealth (legalized theft).

Things are getting very interesting. Wonder how long it goes on before states start outright seceding from the Union.

Well, if the states' legislatures, governors, and people refuse the stimulus money, but the little pricks in Washington still try to take the money from us, the states will HAVE TO refuse to pay the money to the feds by declaring their citizens free from any obligations to the feds. Then we stand and fight. What's Washington going to do then? Send an army after us? OK fine then. Most of the military personnel will probably fight for states rights anyway, so screw Washington, they shouldn't get another dime until THEY abide by the laws of The Constitution. See Washington knows that if the people get organized against their illegal government, all mayhem would break loose and they would have hell to pay on short notice.

He can be overridden.

“U.S. Rep. Jim Clyburn of Columbia, House majority whip, included a provision that would allow state legislators to bypass governors to seek the money if a governor doesn’t request the funding.”

0bama IS claiming the mantel of “the next Lincoln”.

All is well that ends well. Well, it didn't end too well for Lincoln. God help us if this does happen. I wouldn't want Obama to become some sort of hero, because of that. I would much rather him fade away into irrelevancy after 4 years when Palin gets elected.

Thanks to everyone who responded to my question, for I now am up-to-par on these movements, and hopeful that these states will follow through, and send a message to D.C.!

I will go to sleep, and pray that the stupids in my state do something similar, but doubt that it will do any good! NYS is so dominated by the down-staters that we out here in fly-over land are voiceless and unrepresented!

Would the military actually fire on them?

We ARE the military. Most military personnel would fight for states' rights in a heartbeat. Remember that rednecks are the nation's figthing class and that most of the guns are in the South.

As for paying taxes, I love the idea of each state kicking in to the federal budget proportionally to their electoral votes, and citizens only paying taxes to the state. This looks to be in direct violation of amendment 16, but as an idea (and since this is just talk), I like it.

The only income tax the Constitution used to allow was a per capita tax. Now, could you imagine the outcry from the majorty of "tax payers" who really don't pay income taxes, if that were the case. Goverment spending would be cut in half about as fast as this stimulus bill was past.

But they still allow the feds to tax in their territories, and they still grovel to get some crumbs back.

slavery was an issue North and South, it had nothing to do with this. Better check your history.

I will say, then, that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of bringing about in any way the social and political equality of the white and black races—that I am not, nor ever have been, in favor of making voters or jurors of Negroes, nor of qualifying them to hold office, nor to intermarry with white people; and I will say in addition to this, that there is a physical difference between the white and black races which I believe will forever forbid the two races living together on terms of social and political equality. And inasmuch as they cannot so live, while they do remain together there must be the position of superior and inferior, and I, as much as any other man, am in favor of having the superior position assigned to The White Race.

Don’t Bail Out My State
Republican Governor Mark Sanford of South Carolina.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB122670755063129989.html

South Carolina will spend about $425 million next year meeting federal unfunded mandates. The increase in the minimum wage alone will cost the state $2.6 million and meeting Homeland Security’s REAL ID requirements will cost $8.9 million.

Based on what I saw in Washington, the bailout train is being loaded up. Taxpayers will have to speak up now to change its freight, tab or departure.

You are exactly right force of truth. It is funny that the liberals look at the first and second amendments and interpret them in a manner that is exactly the opposite of what they say, they then claim a right to abortion and affirmative action are in there somewhere.

But BOTH sides seem to completely ignore the tenth amendment.

This is one of the biggest problems with our country today.
