Sarah and Todd Palin, after the race
Photo by: Sam Harrel / AP Alaska's first dude Todd Palin completed the 1,971-mile Iron Dog snowmobile race Saturday, crossing the finish line in 6th place and receiving a consolation hug from his wife, Gov. Sarah Palin, who greeted the top racers at the finish line.
Palin, 44, completed the course in 41 hours and 14 minutes with race partner Scott Davis.
Riding Artic Cat snowmobiles, they finished nearly four hours behind the winners, Todd Minnick and Nick Olstad, Wasilla, Alaska, natives who completed the 26th annual Iron Dog in 37 hrs., 19 min., and collected the $25,000 1st place prize.
They also broke the old course record of 38:17 set by Palin and Davis in 2007. Combined, Plain and Davis have 11 Iron Dog victories between them, four by Palin and seven by Davis. They last won as a team in 2007.
Battling fresh snow, sub-zero temperatures and blizzards, racers began in Big Lake, north of Wasilla, rode northwest across the interior to Nome, where the racers reversed course and traveled east back across frozen tundra to finish the world's longest snowmobile race in downtown Fairbanks.
The races stretches out over week, allowing riders to make three rest stops along the way. Get up-to-the-minute celebrity news and photos on your cellphone, iPhone or Blackberry at www.people.com!
I miss the lifestyle in the Great land. There were seasons to celebrate, not just survive. Under the coming mess that Obama has created, I also see Alaska seceding from the Union. These people have way too much spirit, pride and patriotic fortitude to tolerate what is coming for this nation.
Their population has been watered down by Liberals, but the nature of the land and the climate sends most of them back to the lower 48 with their tails between their legs. The true Alaskans, dig in and live off what the land provides for them. I really do miss that way of life.
Does that mean that “Vogue” won’t be able to show another spread of the “First Harpie”?
Their photographers would not even be able to catch up with Todd, and would probably suffer serious injury trying.
He finishes 6th and get's the best prize out there? Lucky dude!
BTTT for First Dude!!
Todd Ping!..:)
Hey, check out Tommy Moe right behind her!
Good catch!
LOVE that pic! Nice to see a loving couple.
I’d like to give this race a try. Sounds like fun....
It would be just like racing in the Lonesome Pine Enduro, only it would be cold, snowy, 10 times longer, and on a snowmobile.... :-)
They looked like Gucci but I don't see them in their catalog...
I’m no expert on sunglass brands. Sorry. :o)
a consolation hug from his wife, Gov. Sarah Palin,Lucky guy
Awesome!
I was thinking the same thing. P!$$ on the race, I’d be working my hardest to get back to her.
This race will be banned next year by The Exalted One since it wastes gasoline and contributes to GoreBull warming.
Don’t they belong to the RNC?
