'A little state control wouldn't hurt anybody'

Top Democrat spills beans on revival of 'Fairness Doctrine'

"A little state control wouldn't hurt anybody," declared Jerry Brown, California's Democrat attorney general, in on air comments   esterday about the possible reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine."

"You have a point of view and I have a point of view and they are different. I think the clash can sometimes illuminate the two better than just a one sided presentation," stated Brown, during an exclusive interview with Michael Savage broadcast on the top talker's national radio show.

Savage countered by positing any revival of the "Fairness Doctrine" is aimed at muting conservative talk radio. Brown replying by stating Savage's suggestion had the "tinge of paranoia."

It "would not apply to any other element of the media. It's aimed strictly at us in the minority in the media," Savage shot back. "And they want us controlled and constrained and removed from the airwaves. They only want to hear progressive voices that laud Obama and laud the liberal way."

Retorted Brown: "I don't think that's a fair description of what's going on and it has a tinge of paranoia connected to it."

Savage, however, claimed Brown was using "Soviet tactics" by attempting to paint critics of the Fairness Doctrine as paranoid.

"That's what they used to do in the Soviet Union with dissidents Jerry. They would accuse dissidents of being paranoid," Savage said. "A country that is supposedly free must have dissent."

PETITION TO BLOCK CONGRESSIONAL
ATTACKS ON FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND PRESS
To: U.S. Congress, President of the United States, Supreme Court of the United States

Whereas, the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution clearly states: "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances";

Whereas, members of Congress are recently on record saying they want to re-impose the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" on U.S. broadcasters, or else accomplish the same goal of censoring talk radio by other means, and thereby establish government and quasi-government watchdogs as the arbiters of "fairness" rather than the free and open marketplace of ideas;

Whereas, the U.S. experimented with the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" for 38 years - from 1949 through 1987 - during which time it was repeatedly used by presidents and other political leaders to muzzle dissent and criticism;

Whereas, the abandonment of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" in 1987, thanks to President Ronald Reagan, resulted in an unprecedented explosion of new and diverse voices and political speech - starting with Rush Limbaugh - that revitalized the AM radio band and provided Americans with a multitude of alternative viewpoints;

Whereas, talk radio is one of the most crucial components of the free press in America, and is single-handedly responsible for informing tens of millions of Americans about what their government leaders are doing;

Whereas, it is a wholly un-American idea that government should be the watchdog of the press and a policeman of speech, as opposed to the uniquely American ideal of a free people and a free press being the vigilant watchdogs of government;

Whereas, the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" - either under that name, or using a new name and even more devious methods - represents a frontal assault on the First Amendment, and its re-imposition would constitute nothing more nor less than the crippling of America's robust, unfettered, free press:

What an a**hole.

FREE MEN. FREE MARKETS. FREE IDEAS. FREE TO LIVE. FREE TO LOVE. FREE.

A little state control should begin with a commitment to a state hospital for that lunatic. The slamming of that door on the way out was the sweetest sound Linda Rhondstadt ever made.

Governments have power. Men have rights. Just governments are ordained and established by just men. When governments become unjust, just men must establish such governments as they deem necessary to protect men from government.

The problem is the We are very capable as conservatives of shattering the image that Obama has created, by exposing fact to the public.

Tere is that possibility

And the know we CAN do that, we have done it before.

The Dems are afraid of conservative media, and they want to cut off the possibility that we will inform America of just what the Dems are up to in estblishing a Socialist State in perpetuity

Thsi is the REAL issue. We will bring down that house of cards, with or without talk radio.

Ending talk radio will only speed up the process, so lay on Dems. We will pick the field of battle, not you!

Just keep chasing us! Dem persecutionn is an awesome thing for the whole of America to see.

Not only is this unconstitutional....

Is anybody but me offended that the “big guys” think my personal opinions are formed by talk radio?

They think I am just so stupid that I can’t agree with their ideology?

The fallacy here is that there are only two sides to any argument. I think if the Demos reinstate the “fairness doctrine” I may look into initiating a law suit for the first radio debate in which my own opinion is not represented.

I heard that. I don't know why Savage didn't just hang up on him at that point. It made me sick!!! Do these so-called "liberals" realize that they are turning into totalitarians and fascists???!!!

My, what a change from the famous Free Speech Movement that started at Berkeley in the 60's! Something is nuts in California.

Let’s see now, calls against the Bush Nationalization of US banks ran 100 to 1. And still the trants in office voted for it. The new Obama Nationalization of US industry passed despite a majority being opppsed.

Oh yea, and let us not forget the Bush said he would veto the campaign finance law then didn’t, which limited free speech.

And now some think our ruling tyrants will not pass this new law limiting free speech.

Well I support the new law, maybe if it passes, and it will, some will understand just what is going on.

Talk radio doesn’t care about COLB, but is screaming about this law limiting free speech. It’s going to pass and there is nothing any of us can do to stop it short of..............

Socializing with socialism went hand-in-hand in this instance.

Wasn't Jerry Brown one of Linda Ronstadt's ex-dates at one time?

Try selling that one to the hundreds of millions killed by their own governments in the last century, comrade.

I remember the Free Speech Movement. It was all about using expletives in public. I remember the statement that anyone, including old grannies, who objected, NEEDED to hear “F@(k”. It was about coarsening the culture, not about freedom of ideas.

I also remember the original Fairness Doctrine. It did not silence government opponents, it just drove them underground.

This is about money. The liberals are just PO’d that Rush and Sean make so much and they don't. If they can't be billionaires, then they want to make sure no one else can, either. Even with a Fairness Doctrine, that won't change. I can turn off the radio if I am bored or don't want to hear liberal cant.
