WASHINGTON, D.C. - A senior U.S. lawmaker said Thursday that unmanned CIA Predator aircraft operating in Pakistan are flown from an airbase inside that country, a revelation likely to embarrass the Pakistani government and complicate its counterterrorism collaboration with the United States.

The disclosure by Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.), the chairwoman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, marked the first time a U.S. official had publicly commented on where the Predator aircraft patrolling Pakistan take off and land.

At a hearing, Feinstein expressed surprise at Pakistani opposition to the ongoing campaign of Predator-launched CIA missile strikes against Al Qaeda targets along Pakistan's northwest border.

"As I understand it, these are flown out of a Pakistani base," she said of the planes.Nice going senator.

I am increasingly hard-pressed to believe that any democrat is on our side anymore. She might be chastised mildly for violating security regulations, but I seriously doubt that the democrats in the senate will give her much grief, nor the democrat in the white house, either. I was a Top Secret ControL Officer with a Top Secret SIOP ESI clearance. When I would grant access to base personnel I would counsel them regarding their responsibility to keep the information undercontrol and not divulge it to anyone not authorized access. I would obtain a signed certificate which the person would acknowledge, understand and agree to maintaining the secrets to which they were granted access to.

I also explained that the penalty for unauthorized disclosure could be a penalty of $5000 and up to 5 years in prison once they "leak" was investigated and the disclosure was evaluated.

I have a dim memory of a certain VP who was excoriated in the papers for allegedly outing a non CIA operative. So here we have a sitting senator who has betrayed the confidence of very country she has sworn an oath to defend.
