I teach them that Darwin is right... and that Kooks exist in America like Kooks exist everywhere... kind of like worshiping a cow... or bugs... or lettuce...

God told me that the world is NOT 4,000 years old.. and he said that kooks are all around us... like aliens.

I take no special note of Darwin’s birthday. Neither do most of the people whom the Creationists pejoratively label as Darwinists. The only people that seem to give the event notice are those that believe him to be some sort of Antichrist.

I feel sad for Doug Phillips’ children.

You apparently are not keeping up with the news. Nearly a thousand churches have signed up to celebrate Evolution Weekend this weekend; nearly 12,000 liberal clergy have done the same. There at least 3 pro-Darwin books being released today. There are special exhibits in some of the largest Natural History museums in the US and the UK planned around Darwin for this year. And there are a number of magazines devoting their entire current issue to Darwin. But, other than that, you might be right, or you might not.

I do too. I simply can’t understand why people are so afraid of the scientific method and its results that they feel compelled to lie. They must be awfully insecure in their faith.

"Neither do most of the people whom the Creationists pejoratively label as Darwinists."

I bet for most people, that's right. But there has been a large amount of fanfare over this anniversary in the media, and there are a lot of evolutionists*, who do 'think the world' of Darwin, and have put him on sort of a pedestal.

For instance, it is true that both democracy and capitalism share a similarity to evolution. They all require a diversity of ideas, mutations, etc. and the best of these for the situation are eventually selected, and the society advances/evolves. I've seen at least one Darwin fan flat out credit Darwin for this; others lean that way.

The thing is, both democracy and capitalism predate Darwin. Acceptance of evolution did not lead to the revelation of democracy or capitalism.

* evolutionists who know a lot, and are interested a lot, about evolution, not the average Joe who accepts evolution because that is what he was taught in school, but doesn't know all that much about it, nor is he interested in it.

...coming from those who supposedly believe that they are commanded not to bear false witness!

It is for that reason that I believe the leaders of these movements are not actually honest men, not actually Christian. And they mislead many well-meaning laymen.

If God created this earth only a few thousand years ago, then He’s a deceitful God to leave such overwhelming evidence against that idea.

My local paper not only noted his birthday, but printed some of Emma Darwin’s recipes.

I entered pre-Med when I could actually apply the evolution I'd learned in High School. Chemistry and Math were my undoing, but my rapt fascination with ALL evolution continues to this day—late in my life.

I think this is very unfair to Darwin. The man was a theology graduate and he understood that some people would be very upset with his research. I believe he agonised about publishing his work - “Origin of Species” lay in a desk drawer for 17 years. In fact I think the only reason he ever published it was to forestall publication by someone else with the same conclusions.

Personally I’m not all that fussed about the finer details of how God created the world. It’s enough for me to know that He did.

Evolution teaches how it happened

Religions teach why it happened.

Grow up.

Sorry, anyone who starts out by asserting that Calvin and Darwin are the two most influential men of the past thousand years is obviously setting up straw men right out of the gate. The author of this piece is a much more unprincipled man than Charles Darwin. Pay him no attention and make your own search for the truth.
