OBAMA BURNED: GREGG WITHDRAWS AFTER POLICIES TOO MUCH TO STOMACH Thu Feb 12 2009 16:18:14 ET

For Immediate Release: Thursday, February 12, 2009

Senator Gregg Statement on His Withdrawal for Consideration of U.S. Commerce Secretary

Sen. Gregg stated, “I want to thank the President for nominating me to serve in his Cabinet as Secretary of Commerce. This was a great honor, and I had felt that I could bring some views and ideas that would assist him in governing during this difficult time. I especially admire his willingness to reach across the aisle.

“However, it has become apparent during this process that this will not work for me as I have found that on issues such as the stimulus package and the Census there are irresolvable conflicts for me. Prior to accepting this post, we had discussed these and other potential differences, but unfortunately we did not adequately focus on these concerns. We are functioning from a different set of views on many critical items of policy.

“Obviously the President requires a team that is fully supportive of all his initiatives.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership, but at this time I must withdraw my name from consideration for this position.

“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President’s proposals. This will certainly be a goal of mine.

“Kathy and I also want to specifically thank Governor Lynch and Bonnie Newman for their friendship and assistance during this period. In addition we wish to thank all the people, especially in New Hampshire, who have been so kind and generous in their supportive comments.

“As a further matter of clarification, nothing about the vetting process played any role in this decision. I will continue to represent the people of New Hampshire in the United States Senate.”

Now I’d LOVE for That One to choose either of the Maine Sisters or Specter for the Commerce seat. It’s not like we’d miss their votes in the Senate, since they never vote with Repubs. anyway.

No, Mike Pence and the conservative republicans in the house are contemplating court proceeding regarding the CensusGate.

If I were Gregg, I would not want to be the neutered commerce secretary during this circus should it end up in some court somewhere....

There is something else going on. Gregg knows something we don’t know. Maybe facts are about to be revealed concerning BO’s citizenship.

If he doesn't run, the seat will go to a Democrat.

Congressman Paul "green is the new red, white and blue" Hodes (C-NH) has already announced his intention to run for that Senate seat.

I completely disagree! Obama looks like the partisan, jerk tyrant that he is. Gregg looks like someone as disgusted with the non-stimulus massive democrat spending bill and the census power grab as the rest of America.

This is how it will sort out especially if the stooge media mentions the Census power grab. My guess is they won't. Too much in the tank for Comrade 0

"Wonder if Gregg sees this as a way to position himself for a presidential run in 2012?"

ROFLOL! The only reason he took the Commerce position was because his political career is finished. He can't even be re-elected to the Senate let alone President. (Presidential nominees need to be able to carry their own states so they don't lose ALL of them.)

And his withdrawal now brings this issue front and center to the MSM, who has been ignoring it up to this point.

I dunno. Do any of them have a conscience?

They are all rank opportunists and Zero is writing checks he can't cash.

I agree. In previous days, it has been pointed out how Zero has totally demoted her role as SOS by sending his hand-picked flying monkeys out to perform her functions in various countries. She isn’t even a figurehead at this point.

Oh, I believe he had every right to change his mind. And I am glad he did. I just don’t recall it happening before and I think (if that is true) that because it is so rare, the insult is to Obama and has much more impact that the media will ever report.

Wonder what made Gregg come to his senses?

Let's hope it was the possibility he could have been replaced by a democrat.

“I greatly admire President Obama and know our country will benefit from his leadership"

"“As we move forward, I expect there will be many issues and initiatives where I can and will work to assure the success of the President’s proposals"

Ummm, OK. Thanks for that Senator. Don't work too hard to "asure the success of the Presidnet's proposals" though.

This guy is a Republican? Are we sure.

I think Hillary may see the Sec. of State position as a stepping stone to the 2016 nomination, so she will want to stay the entire term or most of it (perhaps resign after 3 years if it looks like BHO is going to be defeated in 2012—but a primary challenge in 2012 is out of the question). If BHO were to force her out early in the term, she’d be in a bad position—no official job and scorned by the BHO loyalists.

"Let's hope it was the possibility he could have been replaced by a democrat."

They don't need anymore Democrat votes. The Senate is filibuster-proof with the two battleaxes from ME and Snarlin' Arlen, plus another half dozen RINOs, at least, lined up in the wings willing to take their place if need be.

At what point does the 25%-30% of Americans who swing either way in elections start to get a little freaked out by all of this?????

Right before the Reichstag fire.

Actually it will be after the fire, sadly enough, even then most of them still will not understand what is happening.

Maybe he’s seen the numbers and doesn’t want his name associated with the near future.
