Panned over pork takeaway

Halal of an idea ... Domino's pizza

Halal of an idea ... Domino's pizza

TAKEAWAY giant Domino's has pizza-ed off customers by taking pork off the menu and serving only HALAL meat.

The group have opened the first halal-only pizza store in the country, catering to the needs of Muslim customers in the mixed race area of Hall Green, Birmingham.

The controversial menu change means Brummie pizza lovers hoping to tuck into classic pizzas like a Hawaiian with ham and pineapple will be disappointed.

Instead, they will have to travel over two miles to the next closest Domino's branch, something which has angered some non-Muslim customers who say they are being discriminated against.

Angry

One disgruntled punter Chris Yates, 29, a hospital worker living in Moseley said he was told he couldn't have a "Meteor" pizza, topped with pepperoni, sausage, meatballs, ground beef and smoky bacon, when he called up at the weekend.

"It's a disgrace, I can appreciate them having it as an option but to have it completely halal is just not on."

Halal items on the menu include halal spicy beef sausage, roast and tandoori chicken, halal pepperoni and halal cured turkey – all produced and stored within the Halal Food Authorities guidelines.

A spokesman for Domino's, who recently announced profits were up 33 per cent, said: "In that particular area of Birmingham there are a large number of Muslims so there is naturally more of a demand for halal based products.

"We appreciate we cannot please everybody but there are alternatives, such as turkey ham, and we have thought long and hard about this decision and we are sure it is the right one."

I’d consider it, but if it were possible and economically feasible I might end up selling the business, as I wouldn’t want to be part of such a venture anymore. There are a million different ways for a bright person to make a good lving, and being even a small part of Islam’s encroachment and domination of the West would be something that I simply couldn’t justify doing.

Stunning, isn’t it? The demands, couched in softspoken (sometimes), seemingly rational tones, and then they get their way.

Just like in some Muslim areas in the UK, long established pubs are being shut down due to pressure.

Yes, what about the local bub who wants a traditional pepperoni pie? Now, he either shlubs the two miles, or pays an extra delivery fee. No regard for the greater society at all. It’s so nauseatingly familiar.

Have you been reading jihadwatch? It certainly is depressing, the West is mimicking certain aspects of the India’s over deference to Islamis.

This Domino's branch might already be owned by a Muslim. Many of the businesses in Muslim-areas are.

It’s just turkey meat dressed up to look like pork products. No big deal. Besides, Americans came up with the “turkey”.

There's this red hot pepper soup they make ~ it's red, it's hot, and you are supposed to take a ball of rice and dip in it and eat the ball of rice.

Or, just take the bowl of rice and dump it in the soup.

No one else does that.

Moslems aren't supposed to be in those pubs ~ at least not "good Moslems" ~ 'cause it's a sin to drink beer and wine.

If they come into a pub just tell 'em, "In for a Dime In for a Dollar" ~ you drink beer, you eat hamsandwiches and like it ~ or get out!

>>Moslems aren’t supposed to be in those pubs ~

Not the point.

Point is they are using their demographics and the tools of democracy handed to them to enforce their religious diktats upon the population.

In a urban country like England, that invariably tramples upon others.

If you don’t want pork, don’t order, ditto beer, but to enforce your sharian impulses is wrong.

Where’s it gonna stop? It won’t, as sharia finance gains strength.

That's a minor point. Moslems shouldn't be in pubs. If they want their law enforced in UK, they gotta' leave the pubs.

End of story.

BTW, shouldn't be any Moslems in UK anyway because, it turns out according to top officials "The government refuses entry to our country to everyone who disseminates extremism, hatred and violent messages in our community," said a UK home affairs ministry spokesman.

Time for them to go home and that'll put an end to any efforts to peddle turkey as authentic pepperoni.

In the 90’s I took several evening walks down Pepsi Cola Boulevard in al Khobar Saudi Arabia, past all the flower shops with all the fantastic house plants. I would walk by the Domino’s Pizza shop. At prayer time, it was like all the other businesses except the bank ATM’s, closed. All the Philippinos who made and delivered the pizzas were out sitting on the curb till it was over.

It never occured to me that there was a pork problem . They made tons of pizza and sold them like gangbusters, all pork free I’m sure.

This thread just indicates how well they know thier customers

Do you suppose that if a huge influx of Westerners occurred in that neighborhood, as has happened with muslims in this neighborhood in Birmingham, and the Domino's pizza shop started going out of business as a result of those Westerners not liking the halal meats, and the Domino's decided to exclusively offer pork in their pizzas as opposed to halal in order to please their changing customer base, that this would pass unnoticed among the local muslims?  I doubt that they would even allow such a change to be made and would simply force the company to go out of business.

I’m dead certain there was no pork.

Al Khobar was the Eastern Provence city where many international business people lived, including many Americans. It was however Saudi. They like pizza too.

When the Gulf War came, a close associate traded paper back to troops for Ham MRE’s. There was also ham and pork in the “pork room” a cooler situated in a special room all by itsself in an Aramco commissary for American families. It is likely gone now because the Americans are also gone.

I'm sure you're absolutely correct, but the hypothetical point I was trying to make was that the local muslim community wouldn't have accepted the same sort of radical, complete change in menu that's being done in this Birmingham neighborhood as evidenced by your description of the special 'pork room' that was created in order to be sensitive to local religion and traditions.  Such interest in getting along with Western cultures is not a typical hallmark of muslims.

Pre Gulf war, since perhaps 1946, there was a US Airforce Officers club in Dahran that served good Rib eyes with wine, or beer or other drinks.

The rule was go, eat, drink and enjoy but don’t flaunt

classic pizzas like a Hawaiian with ham and pineapple

The Sun has rather a bizarre notion of what constitutes a 'classic' pizza. The original pizza contained no meat of any description, still less fruit.

This mindset isn't exclusive to Dominoes.

SubWay also have sneaked halal, covertly into their menus here in Britain.

I take great pleasure in seeing the halal logo on the door of SubWay restaurants, and then enter and order a meal before raising the issue of;

"Oh, does this logo on your refrigerator mean you serve halal products?"

When they always answer yes, I reply;

"Sorry, I cannot support a company that promotes the barbaric ritual slaughter of animals", and then I simply walk out of the store.

It always provokes a response from other people in the queue, and many people have walked out with me.
