Republicans Shut Out of Stimulus Conference Negotiations (Defeat Porkulus!)
Human Events ^ | Wednesday, February 11, 2009 | Connie Hair

Republicans have caught the Democrats in a midnight “stimulus” power play that seeks to cut Republican conferees out of the House-Senate negotiations to resolve a final version of the Obama “stimulus” package. Staff members from the offices of House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Ca.) and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) met last night to put together the “stimulus” conference report.

They intend to attempt to shove this $1.3 trillion spending bill through in the dead of the night without Republican input so floor action can take place in both chambers on Thursday.

I spoke with House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (R-Ind.) moments ago about this latest version of Democratic “bipartisanship.” Pence told me, “I think the American people deserve to know that legislation that would comprise an amount equal to the entire discretionary budget of the United States of America is being crafted without a single House Republican in the room.”

How many Senate RINOs will go along with this? Probably, just enough for the Dems to get away with it.

It was extremely heavy sarcasm - I was mocking the idea that the Democrats seem to feel that they get to flip off half the country because “they won”. ;-)

They have gotten ridiculously bold.

Socialism catches on very quick when you have an audience that believes everything the Messiah tells them.

Tyrants never sleep. Sheeple do.

Could you just imagine how the conservative base would be energized if just one Representative or Senator were to actually do something like that?

I can see it now: A Republican Representative is approaching the conference room where the meeting is being held. Another Rep comes running towards him and reports that the Democrats inside have locked the doors.

The first Rep walks up to the door and pounds on it with his fist, demanding that the doors be unlocked. The Democrats ignore him. Ten seconds pass. Suddenly he kicks the door open and walks in, followed by the other Republicans. They all sit down and the door kicker says “Let’s talk about all the BS pork you’re trying to shove down the throat of the American people.”

That would show me that somebody had some spine.

We should get a campaign started to send these RINOS and RATS boxes of black tar and feathers to their offices.

Agreed. We cannot let up now, but I know solid Dems who are disgusted with what is happening.

Funny you should mention that. I've been rolling that idea around for a few days. I'm just trying to figure out how/what form to send it without giving them ammunition to call it an illegal act designed to foster terrorism. Some may laugh at that, but if they try sending them some baby powder or other substance in a package or in an envelope they'll be quick to see what happens. There's got to be a way to get our point across to this band of thieves.

Republicans should continue to campaign against this if and when it does get passed. Let the voters know what giving the Democrats a supermajority is going to do to the country.

I thought that as well at first...But I thought the better...Nothing would change...

This is a result of the election, we lost, they won, and this is how they play politics...

Hopefully in the next 21 months we will still be able to counter this with gains in the house and senate for all of this...And make the last two years of his administration moot...

But I seriously doubt our party leadership, and any candidates fielded for 2010 will make a hill of beans difference...

Doesn’t really matter that it can be tied to the Dems, anything bad that happens will be blamed on Bush and the repubs, the ones who voted for O won’t care and will follow whatever they are told... it’s over, pretty much with Acorn getting Billions of $ pretty soon it will be all Dems in office, and One party running things.

Does anyone remember during the 2000 re-re-re-count when the Dems tried to lock out the Republican poll watchers.

I remember the video, all the Republicans standing outside the door chanting "Let us in!" until the Dems finally opened the door.

Reactionary conservatism is why we are here.

That is the most succinct, profound truth I've heard or read in Republican/Conservative circles in a very long time. I would only offer to insert apologetic between reactionary and conservatism to further clarify why a country founded on individual freedom and liberty is teetering on the brink of subjugation and bondage.

It's a good addition, Kudsman.

It is hard to watch the Republic slip away. However, my faith is not in men, armies, or financials. Instead, I look forward to the promised "healing of the nations" that is to come....

Yeah, I think it comes from this well intentioned but misguided notion that we should be about “defending” freedom or “defending” liberty. To truly be proactive we have to become about “promoting” freedom and liberty. And the arguments have to be made with this unapologetic mind set. Our ideals and beliefs have to be have to be stated as promoting freedom juxtaposed against the group identity goals of the left as the shackling of freedom for the greater good as dictated by the overreaching elitist government.
