We have more words for just about everything than any other nationality. That is the beauty of the English language and the ability of the British to exploit its flexibility and creativity.

Although I don’t doubt your suggested origins of the term ‘chav’, it is now popularly held to be an acronym, Council House And Violent. The direct American equivalent is of course ‘white trash’.
