Cheney warns of new attacks

Former Vice President Dick Cheney warned that there is a “high probability” that terrorists will attempt a catastrophic nuclear or biological attack in coming years, and said he fears the Obama administration’s policies will make it more likely the attempt will succeed.

In an interview Tuesday with Politico, Cheney unyieldingly defended the Bush administration’s support for the Guantanamo Bay prison and coercive interrogation of terrorism suspects.

And he asserted that President Obama will either backtrack on his stated intentions to end those policies or put the country at risk in ways more severe than most Americans — and, he charged, many members of Obama’s own team — understand.

“When we get people who are more concerned about reading the rights to an Al Qaeda terrorist than they are with protecting the United States against people who are absolutely committed to do anything they can to kill Americans, then I worry,” Cheney said.

Nigerian terror suspect studies at Australian university campus in Dubai

A Nigerian man accused of trying to blow up a U.S. jetliner on Christmas Day was a student at the satellite campus of an Australian university in the first half of this year.

Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab was studying for a master's degree in international business at the University of Wollongong's campus in Dubai, vice-chancellor Gerard Sutton said on Tuesday. Abdulmutallab took classes for about seven months from January to the middle of 2009.

He defied his family's plea to remain at the university and traveled to Yemen to study Arabic and Sharia law, the Wall Street Journal reported.

Al Qaeda in Yemen expands operations
29 December 2009

CAIRO — Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, which claimed responsibility for the attempted attack on a U.S. airliner bound for Detroit, is led by a Yemeni who was once a close aide to Osama bin Laden. The group formed in January this year, when leader Naser Abdel Karim al-Wahishi announced a merger between operatives from Saudi Arabia and Yemen.

Al-Wahishi, who goes by the alias Abu Basir, was among 23 Al Qaeda figures who escaped from a Yemeni prison in 2006. He is on Saudi Arabia’s most wanted list, which includes many militants currently in Yemen.

Two officials said the government had intelligence from Yemen before Friday that leaders of a branch of Al Qaeda there were talking about “a Nigerian” being prepared for a terrorist attack. While the information did not include a name, officials said it would have been evident had it been compared to information about Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old Nigerian charged with trying to blow up a Northwest Airlines flight to Detroit on Christmas Day.

This morning a suicide bomber walked into an American forward post in Afghanistan and blew himself up. Don’t know how many American troops were killed and/or injured.
All of a sudden, the semi-peace of Christmas has come to a screeching halt. There is no peace no where. islam is a pandemic. It should be treated like one.
