'Creating’ a Stir at University

...I was always amazed at how many creationists were studying Science degrees, where they were force-fed evolution. I remember sitting in a Chemistry lab one day and in the course of conversation the man across the table said he was creationist. I said ‘Wow, so am I!’ and my lab partner piped up, ‘I am too, actually.’ We all paused, astonished and the man across the table said, ‘What are the chances of that? That three people at this table are creationist?’ And his lab partner corrected him, ‘Four.’...

Hmmm...I wonder how many people go through their university years pursuing a science degree without ever finding out who their fellow creationists are????

What’s funny is I became a creationist while in grad school.

One of my sociology units required me to write about a text that supported a transcendent authority and my lecturer suggested something on the Creation-evolution debate. All semester my lecturer had praised the theory of evolution and belittled religious thought as unscientific, all the while claiming to be unbiased.

One of the biggest problems is the heights to which intellectualism is elevated. It's equated with morals and conservatism and the biggest insult the atheist can lob at someone is to accuse them of being ignorant, as if that's all that matters in life.

Intellectual ability without moral constraint is a disaster waiting to happen. Anything can be justified and usually is, all because it's "logical".

And of course, we see who gets to define what's considered intelligent and logical. Nice way to have the system all sewn up.

Conservatism is inherently Christian in nature. All the moral positions held by conservatives are rooted in the Judeo-Christian worldview.

While the atheist and liberal can find reasons to support conservative and Christian positions, all they are doing is looking for an excuse to support them without being Christian.

Indeed and how silly they look while mocking conservatism by defending the godless secular humanist NEA agendas and calling THAT conservatism!

I started out doing a double degree; (in un-accredited on-line internet course) Law and Science, majoring in Biology. in Christian apologetics, alchemy, phrenology and how to make $’s doing Google internet searches” and “creation science” In my very limited experience, there is nothing like tackling the theory of evolution in a Biology lecture theatre because I’m really too stupid to understand any of it anyhow. Sometimes lecturers can be very touchy (meaning intellectually challenging beyond my intellect). I once suggested that evolution is unobservable and thus can’t really be proven in a scientific sense. Of course this proved to everyone that I was ignorant fool and had little or no understanding of the scientific method, but I did after all have a Bible and wasn’t afraid to use it and beat everyone over the head with it.

The lecturer became flustered and shot back half a dozen ‘evidences’ for evolution, including all the ‘transitional fossils’ but because facts will never, ever stand in the way of what I believe, even if it is wrong I dismissed all evidence. Tempting as it was to knock these arguments down, ‘pride only breeds quarrels’ (Proverbs 13:10) so I left it at that.Because when I run out of coherent arguments, there is nothing better than spouting off some obscure Biblical quotes to shut the opposition down. “Oh where is my LOL Cat! I’m like so smart and funny!”

Other times, I was a little more subtle and had my lecturer agreeing that it was impossible to determine how life could arise from inorganic matter (abiogenesis—or chemical evolution) - duh, because the TOE doesn’t attempt to answer origins, but then I’m too addle-brained to understand that- and that, really, there are so many requirements for life that any such thing would be a miracle. But by that stage, she “twigged” what I was getting at and quickly ended the conversation. Because some things are like so like really complicated and like stuff so it like must be really like God and stuff and so we like so are like complicated and stuff so like we shouldn’t waste our like time trying to explain it all and like, you know, like math is really hard, like and your are so like so “twigged” and like so PAWND and like you are not so like no longer my Facebook friend Digg it?

Throughout all this, I was always amazed at how many creationists were studying Science degrees (never mind how many of us actually voted for Obama), where they were force-fed evolution (and heliocentrism, a round Earth and all that so called Gravitational theory crap).

I remember sitting in a Chemistry lab one day and in the course of conversation the man across the table said he was creationist. I said ‘Wow, so am I!’ and my lab partner piped up, ‘I am too, actually.’ “I’m also an Islamic Terrorist who believes in the 6-day creation and in Allah and that infidels should die! Then he blew himself up! We all paused, astonished and the man across the table said, ‘What are the chances of that? That three people at this table are creationist?’ And his lab partner corrected him, ‘Four.’ But nonetheless, studying Biology inevitably leaves some people totally confused about the issue. One girl I spoke to told me that she had been creationist but was starting to have second thoughts because she didn’t know how to deal with the evidence that was being presented in support of evolution. So I gave her some print-outs of CMI material (and a copy of the Book of Mormon, the latest issue of the Watchtower, a copy of the Koran, and a copy of the National Enquirer), which happen to have come in very handy while studying my course. The material was just what she needed to re-ground her in her faith.

That’s doing more damage to conservatism more than the absurd anti-science claims.

No wonder you are always criticizing the work of scientists. They are all creationists.

Would you mind documenting which Islamic terrorists believe in a six day creation? The vast majority of terrorists I am aware of are materialists.

LOL!

That's also how I read it...after all..."Since all that, I changed courses to Law/Arts, majoring in Psychology. I thought" blah blah.

Best thing the writer could have done...As a lawyer with a psych degree he can meet all kinds of characters he can witness to. Why deal with intellectual logic if you don't have to?

Could you tell people what you’re smoking? I’m sure that there are some who would love to know.....

Well, unlike Bill Clinton or perhaps even GWB or Michael Phelps, I will readily admit to smoking some weed way back in the day (late 70’s – early 80’s) when I was young and stupid and I admit to inhaling (and inhaling very deeply) and will readily admit to rather enjoying it at the time. :), I made some mistakes in my life but I have few regrets over some of my misspent youth as it ended up teaching me some important life lessons.

I will also tell you at the time I imbibed the sweet ganga, I was probably more inclined to have agreed with “Creationsists” as I was at the time much more “religious” than I am today.

I always had a strong conservative streak and voted for Regan in 1980, but at that time, when I was young and idealist and stupid, I also followed Astrology, was a vegetarian for a time, and thought that Greenpeace was a good thing. And if PETA had been around, I probably would have joined them.

I also attended a local concert called “The Ban The Bomb Boogie”. It was a concert to raise money for the No Nukes movement. I wasn’t against Nukes, but then I did like some of the bands playing and the 50 cent draft beer and low cover charge and my best friend and I thought it might be an opportunity to meet some cute guys.

Boy, were we wrong. Some of the bands and music were OK and the beer was cheap but the rhetoric offended me and the guys were weird and smelly and a lot of them didn’t even seem to be interested in girls who were not freaks or lesbians. Go figure.

When I gave up the weed and the bottle and got clean and sober in the late 80’s, I became more rational and more much more politically conservative and less religious.
