ARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. Now that Senator Kirsten E. Gillibrand represents all of New York rather than one conservative swath outside Albany, she has described her shift on hot-button issues like illegal immigration and gay marriage as a broadening of her position.
But in the 20th Congressional District, which first sent Ms. Gillibrand to Washington in 2006, many are taking it as an abandonment of the principles that persuaded them to support a Democrat in this predominantly Republican area.
I dont think its right when you say one thing and do something else, said Michelle Boyea, 44, as she sat in her car after running errands around town. If you have a position, and this is what you feel, why would you change it just because you got a new job?
Ms. Boyea was unhappy with Ms. Gillibrands sudden change of heart, after being appointed to the Senate, on issues that had won her re-election in November. She liked the voting record that had earned Ms. Gillibrand a 100 percent rating by the National Rifle Association (Ms. Boyeas husband owns several firearms). She approved of Ms. Gillibrands hard line against illegal immigration and her opposition to gay marriage. Im Catholic, Ms. Boyea said.
But Ms. Gillibrand has softened some of her positions in the weeks since her appointment. She declared her support for gay marriage, not merely civil unions. She assured Latinos and Asians in New York City that she would work to enact a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants. And she let Senator Charles E. Schumer, who had enthusiastically supported her selection, reassure downstate voters that she would evolve on gun control, too.

This is but more evidence that “convervative” Democrats are liars. Voters in “blue Dog” districts: watch what they do, not what they say.
Hey, she is a Democrat. That is what they do.
Suckers.
Democrats firmly and passionately believe whatever gets them the most votes at any given moment.
She’s still better than Hillary Clinton, Caroline Kennedy, or Andrew Cuomo. In NY, the question isn’t whether we are going to get shafted, it’s how long the shaft is going to be.
Get USED to it fool, That's the demonRAT and RINO way.
Poor upstate New York. Good conservative folks trapped in a loveless marriage with few interests in common with New York City.
This was another seat that was stolen by cheating Democrats who illegally went into sealed the divorce
records of Republic who had the seat. What they used was unproved but of course that made no difference. The morons in that district who fell for the Democrat’s lies deserve being “betrayed.
I often wondered if it would be possible to get enough people in Upstate to split from the Rest of New York and establish their own state.
Happens with all dems. Al Gore was a conservative, abortion-opposing dem before he became a national figure.
I began to see her for what she is when she never responded to my emails/letters asking how she voted on an issue where no vote was recorded.
We need someone in office we can trust and Gillibrand does not meet that criteria.
LOL. Some bunny wants to win her primary. No word on whether she'll flip-flop on guns as well.
Honestly, "oh my position is a broadening!" *shakes head*.
Actually there is:
"And she let Senator Charles E. Schumer, who had enthusiastically supported her selection, reassure downstate voters that she would evolve on gun control, too."
Quelle suprise.
Woah! Another public school graduate.
This is called L-Y-I-N-G. And it is what democrats do best.
