Daly appointed as research chief

Amid the furor over controversies regarding Cabinet-nominee tax problems and the seismic battle over a nearly trillion-dollar economic rescue bill, President Obama made a little-noticed appointment that is now generating intrigue.

Shauna Daly, a 29-year-old Democratic operative, was named last month to the new job of White House counsel research director. Though she is inside one of the most powerful legal offices in the land, Miss Daly holds no law degree and doesn't list any legal training on her resume.

"Daly does not have the qualifications to be holding a significant position in the White House counsel's office," said Mark Levin, a conservative lawyer and radio-show host who worked in the Reagan White House and as chief of staff for Attorney General Edwin Meese.

"Her only qualification is that she knows how to dig up dirt on other people," he said.

It gets worse by the hour, not the day. He’s moving so fast that I must admit I am astounded. He must need to take control fast because he knows he will get outed soon.

found this part of the Factcheck article particularly interesting:

We asked the Obama campaign about the date stamp and the blacked-out certificate number. The certificate is stamped June 2007, because that’s when Hawaii officials produced it for the campaign, which requested that document and “all the records we could get our hands on” according to spokesperson Shauna Daly. The campaign didn’t release its copy until 2008, after speculation began to appear on the Internet questioning Obama’s citizenship. The campaign then rushed to release the document, and the rush is responsible for the blacked-out certificate number. Says Shauna: “[We] couldn’t get someone on the phone in Hawaii to tell us whether the number represented some secret information, and we erred on the side of blacking it out. Since then we’ve found out it’s pretty irrelevant for the outside world.” The document we looked at did have a certificate number; it is 151 1961 - 010641.

My sentiments exactly, mojitojoe.

OAKLAND, CALIF.—Here’s a rare peak inside the speech-making process at the Obama campaign, where Thursday Sen. Barack Obama (D-Ill.) said Sen. John McCain (R-Az.), the presumptive GOP nominee would only continue President Bush’s economic policies.

At the end of a copy of a speech sent to reporters on Thursday was an e-mail from deputy speechwriter Adam Frankel asking the team for input on revisions. The e-mail also shows that Austan Goolsbee—who got in a jam when he talked NAFTA with Canadian officials—is stlll doing high level advising.

Frankel intersects several people in the Obama world. He assisted former President Kennedy speechwriter Ted Sorenson in his memoir. Sorenson is a big backer of Obama. Frankel is the co-writer of a book with Rep. Pat Murphy (D-Pa.) about Murphy’s road to Congress. Murphy is endorsing Obama.

Now, the header in the e-mail...

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1549352/posts Romney must be causing some Democrats some 2008 worries... Nearly three years before the 2008 presidential election, the Democratic National Committee is already digging for dirt on one potential candidate in the race: Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts. Earlier this month, virtually every agency in state government received public records requests for ''any and all records of communication" involving Willard [Mitt] Romney dating to 1947, the year of his birth. The letters, each dated Dec. 7, are signed by Shauna Daly, who only provided a post office box in Washington, D.C., as her address. A spokesman for the Democratic National Committee confirmed yesterday that Daly is employed as its deputy research director. http://www.gopbloggers.org/mt/archives/2005_12.php

Democrats seek data on Romney
Order public records from Mass. agencies

By Raphael Lewis, Globe Staff | December 30, 2005

Nearly three years before the 2008 presidential election, the Democratic National Committee is already digging for dirt on one potential candidate in the race: Governor Mitt Romney of Massachusetts.

Earlier this month, virtually every agency in state government received public records requests for ‘’any and all records of communication” involving Willard [Mitt] Romney dating to 1947, the year of his birth. The letters, each dated Dec. 7, are signed by Shauna Daly, who only provided a post office box in Washington, D.C., as her address.

You’d think he would move slower so the sheople don’t realize what he’s doing. What’s that saying? If you put a frog in boiling water, it will jump out, but if you put a frog in a pot of water and slowly turn the heat up, the frog won’t realize it and will be cooked alive.

Friday, December 30, 2005 DNC Makes Public Records Request The Boston Globe reported today that someone at the Democratic National Committee made public records requests to a number of different Massachusetts state agencies, seeking records about Governor Romney. The person, Shauna Daly, has requested that the fees for responding to the request be waived. Fees may be waived if the disclosure requested would benefit the public interest. Hmmm.......

READ THIS, she went after Palin in 2006

Published: October 25th, 2006 08:54 PM: In late August and early September, DNC researcher Shauna Daly asked for copies of financial disclosure reports and ordinances for Palin's years as mayor. The request generated hundreds of documents, said Wasilla deputy city clerk Jamie Newman.

So she went after Palin 3 years ago. Just wait until she and Rahm get together with all the Census data and others. This takes *Big Brother* to a whole new level. He has to be stopped, out of control now.

Her sole experience has been as an opposition researcher for Democratic political campaigns: She helped dig up dirt on rivals, or on her own nominee to prepare for attacks.

Miss Daly has been doing opposition research for Democratic politicians since just after graduation in 2001 from Smith College. ... Before joining the Obama campaign, she was the deputy research director at the Democratic National Committee.

On the Obama campaign, Miss Daly specialized in preparing for political attacks against Mr. Obama. [like the Obama birth certificate controversy]...

If that is part of her job description, the timing of Miss Daly’s hiring would appear to be a response to problems the Obama administration has experienced with several of its nominees, most recently the withdrawal of Tom Daschle for secretary of health and human services because of a tax problem.

Obama’s aides have found their way, piecemeal, through this uncharted territory. The campaign has developed a sophisticated set of responses that have required the assistance of virtually every part of the campaign. The effort kicked into high gear in mid-November when Adler’s deputy, Shauna Daly, posted on the campaign website a detailed dossier debunking the claims. The campaign’s national faith director, Joshua DuBois, meanwhile, gathered testimonials from religious leaders on the candidate’s Christian faith. The campaign’s web team developed a special Internet form for supporters to send out their own mass e-mails.

At least eight state agencies received a Freedom of Information request from Shauna Daly of Washington for “any and all records” regarding Huckabee dating back to 1993, when he was lieutenant governor. A DNC spokeswoman confirmed that Daly had sent the letters to other states with potential Republican presidential candidates.
