McCain: Stimulus 'a setback to change' ["I thought we were going to have change"]
Politico ^ | Josh Kraushaar

Posted on 02/08/2009 11:43:05 AM PST by rabscuttle385

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) said on Sunday he'll vote against President Barack Obama’s stimulus bill, calling the legislation “generational theft” in an interview on CBS’ “Face the Nation.”

I thought we were going to have change," he said, in a shot at Obama's campaign slogan, "and that change meant we work together. This is a setback. This is a setback to all Americans because you promised Americans we’d work in a more bipartisan fashion, and that certainly is not the case in this bill,” McCain said.

McCain said the bill would saddle Americans with billions in future debt, and contained protectionist provisions that could be damaging to the economy.

“We’re going to amass the largest debt in the history of this country by any measurement, and we’re going to ask our kids and grandkids to pay for it,” McCain said.

“I know we’re in trouble. I know America needs a stimulus, we need tax cuts, we need to spend money on infrastructure and other programs that will put people to work. But this is not it.”

Knock me over with a feather.

Not like this makes up for voting to send $700 billion to Wall Street, but it’s a nice gesture.

But Juan...things really HAVE changed. You finally woke up and voted against the theft of citizens money for purely political reasons.

We need Mccain to reach out and choke some sense into the three republican suckers who are willing to help implement Obimbo’s communist agenda. This stimulus bill is the most disgusting display of wasteful spending the world has ever seen. Make the democrats pass it without any republican support because it will go down in history as an enormous failure.

Is that too much to ask?

Ah,..yep.

Every time I was just able to make it, Juan helped the socialist criminals shoot holes in my surplus rubber boat from his private yacht, then he'd call me a couple of names and throw me an anvil. Now that I can no longer even patch my boat, I should be nice to McNasty? Screw him.

Not to worry. I understand the Democrats are now looking at getting rid of term limits for the President. The King will take care of us. The next thing I see coming is a Parliment. They will attempt to rewrite the Constitution. They think they are better than our Founders.

[When he does the wrong thing, we should keep damning him. But when he does the right thing, as he is now, we should lay off the guy, maybe for ONE thread. Is that too much to ask?]

You are exactly right! Collins, Snow, and Specter are to be blamed when this morally reprehensible and completely irresponsible bill passes, not McCain.

What the article reveals is that McCain still wants a "compromise porkulus".

All we need is:

1) A 3 year morotorium on capital gains

2) minimize the Corporate tax to a level which will assure military funding for a three year period p> 3) Get rid of the current Internal Revenue personal income tax laws and impose a flat tax with personal deductions for marriage and family dependents.

4) Make ALL military pay TAX FREE.

TURN AMERICA LOOSE! UNTIE US!

BRING INVESTORS BACK! GET THE GOV OUT OF THE BANKING BUSINESS!

All these Bozos are lame. If they want to spend 2 trillion on a stimulus all they gotta do is send everyone over 18 a dedicated credit card with 2,000 that can only be used in stores and to buy goods. Just like the food stamp credit cards.

But Juan, you assured the voters that Obama is a decent guy and a patriot who loves his country. And you never said a damned thing about his involvement in CREATING this mess that he is now using for his own purposes.

You stiffed Reagan in your Ranking o'the Presidents.
He of course should be at the top spot or sharing it with Thomas J, "father of our country" - that is an accurate and terrific descriptive of the Sage.

I actually voted for the guy in the spirit of teaming up with the Russians to defeat the Nazis.

Conservatives have invited McCain into their foxhole too many times not to be wary of what he'll do when he gets there.

He brought this on himself, and the lowliest street fighter would recognize the dynamic.

I wish John McCain was in the White House right now

Not me. Sorry but this nation needs to hit rock bottom first. With McCain in the WH, the slide towards socialism would have continued. Now at least people see what's happening.

““This is three Republican senators, every Republican congressman voted against it in the House, plus 11 Democrats and all but three Republicans stayed together. That’s not bipartisanship, that’s just picking off a couple of Republican senators.”

Yeah. It takes 7 Republicans to make the gang of 14. Now that is bipartisanship. /s

“I thought we were going to have change,"

This obviously is irony.

Are Freepers really too stupid to see that?

Every story, new quotes....

If you read the full transcript, McCain says even more egregiously dumb things, like...

"I’ve been in bipartisan agreements, many."

[Of course *YOU* would know about "bipartisan" agreements, idiot McCain. IMHO, McCain is in disbelief because he's finally learning that "bipartisanship" only goes one way: the Democrats' way. And McQueeg was (and still is) too stupid to realize that.]

"They will come up with a bill. But, unfortunately, Republicans will not be involved in the negotiations. And I -- and I regret that."

[Important to note, for everyone who thinks McCain has finally and truly found his strawberries: McCain still favors a porkulus bill, just one that's not nearly as big as the current one. In other words, if Obama is Socialism, then McCain is still Socialism, just a little bit less than the former.]

"And in interest of full disclosure, that’s the way the Bush administration, when we Republicans were in charge -- that’s the way we did business. But I thought we were going to have change. And that change meant we work together."

[Could it be...so simple that it's staring us directly in the face? No wonder Bush's term sucked so badly; McCain was the one giving him advice.]

This obviously is irony.

Then why was McCain sucking up to Obama so much, before and after the election?

For some around here who can't control their emotions, yes that's too much to ask.
