A radical activist who helped set a $1 million fire to protest research on genetically modified crops was sentenced Thursday to nearly 22 years in prison _ even more than the prosecution recommended.

Marie Mason decided to "elevate her grievances beyond the norms of civilized society" through fire and destruction, U.S. District Judge Paul Maloney said. The case _ which was prosecuted as domestic terrorism _ was "about an abandonment of the marketplace of ideas," he added.

At MSU, Mason and Ambrose targeted a campus office that held records on research related to moth-resistant potatoes for poor parts of Africa. Computers, file cabinets and desks were doused with a flammable liquid. Vapors contributed to an explosion, and the fire got out of control.

"I meant to inspire thought and compassion, not fear,"

BS. What do you think destroying years of research (meant to help starving black people in Africa, you leftist, racist b$tch), public property, and instilling fear in anyone who does agricultural research is? I call it inspiring fear and you deserve every day the judge gave you. Rot in jail.

You don't wanna eat GMO foods, I'm not going to argue. But you don't have the right to destroy property and research because some people hold differing opinions on GMO research.

What a shame and waste.

Had she just just used the right slogans, they could have sentenced her to teaching at Chicago University, or even Northwestern School of Law.

Free Marie Mason

Sigh; wish we caould all just sit down and sing:

Where have all the radicals gone, long time passing?
Where have all the radicals gone, long time ago?
Where have all the radicals gone, long, long ago?
Gone to graveyards, every one; we have finally learned!

“Could be mistaken, but I believe Soliah is still in the joint.”

She’s back in the joint. Remember? She was out the door when they extended her sentence.

I just said I thought she was still in.

By the way, they didn't "extend" her sentence. She was actually released prior to serving her entire sentence. That is why she's back in the joint.
