A new communique from the man who saw it all coming, warning us to prepare for Weimar II. If ever you wanted an illustration of just how inexact a science economics is, watch this clip back to back with The Ones assurances last night (at roughly 4:20 here) that the stimulus is the only way to avoid Armageddon. How much good has 75 years of data done us? From the NYTs front-pager this morning on Japans experiment, this much:
Economists tend to divide into two camps on the question of Japans infrastructure spending: those, many of them Americans like Mr. Geithner, who think it did not go far enough; and those, many of them Japanese, who think it was a colossal waste.
Among ordinary Japanese, the spending is widely disparaged for having turned the nation into a public-works-based welfare state and making regional economies dependent on Tokyo for jobs. Much of the blame has fallen on the Liberal Democratic Party, which has long used government spending to grease rural vote-buying machines that help keep the party in power.

I agree, although I wouldn’t want to go as far as armageddon.
We need to get past this dicussion and figure out what we’re going to do AFTER it passes.
If you want to trash a whole decade, use Keynesianist spending.
U.S. Great Depression, 1930s.
Japan “The Lost Decade”, 1990s.
That too, but I have a hunch that if we can get through the weekend without a “Yes” vote, the public outcry will be so strong they just might take it off the table in a fit of pique. This thing is so un-loved, and is crashing so fast, that they may be afraid it will have low 20% approval by the time Obama signs it. That will be the kiss of death for his Administration. They can’t chance that.
So, keep up the pressure! Convince your friends and neighbors that Government cannot spend us into prosperity.
Peter knows how to use words as bombs on Washingtons heads: "Economic Armageddon "LOL
I say we do nothing, if you are badly burned no amount of money or expertise can re-grow dead tissue.
You cut it off.
You re-grow new skin, you may be scarred but you survive.
America will be scarred but as sure as being burned we must remove the dead skin before it poisons the body.
I believe it would be in the better interest to do an absolute minimal monetary support, no more than 2 billion.
We must face the grim reality that we must shed the ded skin as a nation, let what has failed go on down the road, its better to rebuild and modernize than pay to upkeep something obsolete.
Besides has anybody ever seen a snake that persists in keeping its useless cast off skin?
Without question Porkulus Maximus will not get us out of the current economic rut, but Lord Obama has raised expectations that he will be the savior and fix everything. This will backfire big time as all this borrowing will fuel massive inflation and unemployment...the old stagflation of Jimmy Carter. Unfortunately, continuing to pour government money on the problem will make it worse. The blame will fall on Obama and Congress.
>>>I agree, although I wouldnt want to go as far as armageddon.<<<
Yeah, I agree.
It’s too long of a drive.
What, like 3500 miles?
Besides...they haven’t built the bridge yet

More like prepare for Zimbabwe in America. Obama and his long time supporters(Rev Wright, Louis Farrakhan) are great admirers of Robert Mugabe. It looks like we are headed in that direction. Hopefully Americans will not let it happen here.
The bill is not economic stimulus, it’s a ‘social engineering’ bill.
Rumor has it there will be a ‘buyers strike’ on the necessary TBill auctions.

Those globalists. This must be their next chess move.......but do they have a bishop, queen or king?
This being said, they instead say that growing government w/ 'jobs' (my ar$e) is the way out. IT is insane to pull even more money from the private sector when trying to stimulate an economy. Let it rest.
That has never worked and never will.
Lot's of folks spend well when unexpected windfalls come in to include, for example, a new car, a vacation, a boat, etc., and the wise in that bunch always stick a little back for the lean times.........geeze....ow hard is that to do for goobermint?
Ohh, dat's right, base-line serving and fact finding retreats on the taxpayers' dime is all they know.
Government spending and control by Washington is a political necessary demanded by the media, and unfortunately the belief in Washington to fix things and cure all ills ( with that right guy in charge, JFK as dictator ) is almost a national religion. It has been the religion with most blacks since Roosevelt and civil rights fights of 1960s. But Washington does not have the voting base yet to raise taxes enough to pay for it all, especially since they all tell us it’s free (Obama, McCain and Bush) but it may be coming.
That's exactly right. And, IMO, it will weaken the middle-class, especially, the White middle-class who will fund the give-away's to the non-producing and AA pimps.
It's worth the read:
Liberal Fascism: The Secret History of the American Left, From Mussolini to the Politics of Meaning - by Jonah Goldberg
That’s about the only remaining option.
