Just got off the phone with an influential Republican senator. I asked how things stood with the stimulus, and he answered instantly, "They've cut a deal with three of our guys. They're delaying us from offering amendments. I suspect that as soon as they've got it written, they will offer it as an amendment, vote on it, and that will be it." He didn't have details on what the deal might be, but most Republicans seem to suspect it will involve relatively small cuts — and very little change in the price tag of the bill from the House version — that will be touted as a major bipartisan compromise. My senator suspects — hopes? — that no more than four Republicans will vote for the bill.

Last night all GOP BUT Collins was holding with 5 dems, now it seems three GOP have gone over.. Is that 3 + Collins? The original 4 who were with the dems? or 3 total.
What is with them putting an ammendment into the bill making it illegal to discuss religion on college campuses?
Are you talking about the civil rights marches? They did tear a hole in the fabric of this country... I remember them vividly.

Last night it was 4 including Collins; Voinivich dropped out this morning to make it three and now Hot Air says that Collins is wavering this afternoon and is not happy with the bill. Now they are finding out what it is like to work with Dems and not liking what they are finding out!

I got through to Ben Nelson (Nebraska) and the lady said she would relay my message not to vote for this bill. I tried Mel Martinez (Florida) and that vm is full!!! Even the local news here has told everyone there is a full mailbox and they are trying to clear it for more calls! I called Bill Nelson’s office (Democrat) (Florida) and that line is busy busy busy!!!!
