Grow up and use your brains, people. It’s a procedural move because if, after the 120 day review, the Gitmo trials are found to be illegitimate, any current prosecution would become void. They succeeded in delaying the other trials until after the 120 days and this was the one in which the prosecutor refused. So the charges being dropped is procedural, not because Obama loves terrorists and wants to piss of FR.

Who determined we need a 120 day review?

You’re probably right, but you’d have to admit this was disastrously handled from a PR point of view. Somebody in D.C. either has an incredible political tin ear or they’re actively undercutting Obama. Bad timing, badly released, badly handled.

You got it, saquin!

After the review he can be charged again, or charged with something else.

This avoids having to let him go if his in-process trial is ruled invalid.

Saquin, prepare to be flamed by the ones on here that have not grown up. I’m seeing more and more of this crap on here. There are SO MANY legitimate things to go against Obama and the Democrats for, why are so many people on here wasting their time with this nonsense. Are these people really so delusional that they really believe that “Obama is freeing his Muslim brothers?” I am good friends with the mother of one of the USS Cole victims and talked with her just a few minutes ago. She has NO PROBLEM with this, she knows it is just procedural. I think maybe we should be buying stock in the tinfoil industry.

You do not not know for sure what he is doing either do we. All we know is he has dropped the charges on the mastermind that killed 17 American sailors. That alone is disgusting. Quit making excuses for Obama. You do not know that he does not love terrorists. None of us do. His actions speak louder than his words. His actions show sympathy for them.

Explain this in more detail, including the part about the defendant staying in custody after the charges are dismissed...I truly am confused.

Excuse me, why are we endeavoring to “discover” that the Gitmo trials are illegal? In the case of the Cole this was a US military vessel attacked by foreigners in the Middle East. Are you aware of some requirement that the military hand these guys over to, say, a civilian criminal court in New York?

The entire exercise is unecessary except to a liberal meddler (Obama).

In politics, perception is reality.

There really is no reason to delay any of the trials. 0bama is playing to his base. While bitching about the long detention of these terrorists, he has just added 4 months additional to their stay, delaying justice even further. The DU and Kos Kids are all thrilled about it. Dumb!

They will eventually be tried, in one court or another. He would not dare release them otherwise.

"As President Obama prepared to order the Department of Defense’s Military Commission to withdraw charges against terrorist suspect Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri on Friday afternoon, the convening authority for the Commission, Susan Crawford, withdrew the charges on her own Thursday night.

Did Susan Crawford undercut Obama?
