Sen. Reid Keeps His Eye Out for Nevada (Better brink home the Pork or else!)

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is leading the fight to push President Barack Obama's economic-stimulus plan through the chamber by week's end. He's also working to make sure that his home state of Nevada benefits from the nearly $900 billion plan.

Mr. Reid, a Democrat, is pushing a proposal that would help finance improvements at Las Vegas's McCarran International Airport, and he's backing what could be a multibillion-dollar incentive for Las Vegas casinos and a broad range of corporations to buy back their debt.

Efforts by Mr. Reid and other Republican and Democratic senators to add home-state provisions to the stimulus bill this week pose a challenge to efforts to rein in the cost of the program. Lawmakers -- particularly those up for re-election like Mr. Reid -- see the stimulus plan as an opportunity to help voters back home. The Senate's rules, which typically require that proposals get 60 votes to pass, encourage lawmakers to support each other's home-state projects.

Sen. Reid has "a long record of fighting to ensure Nevada gets its fair share. He makes no apologies for that," said Jim Manley, a spokesman for Mr. Reid. The legislation "benefits Nevada and the nation by making important, job-creating investments in renewable energy and transportation, among other key priorities," he said.

For the past few weeks, Mr. Reid has worked behind the scenes on a plan backed by a broad range of industries that would allow companies to pay lower tax rates when they refinance their debt. The provision is strongly backed by Las Vegas casinos, including MGM Mirage and Wynn Resorts Ltd.

Ouch! I bet that hurts! He’d better put it back in before he loses it.

Like Biden, Reid’s sons are lobbyists. If you want to talk to Reid, you write a check to one or more of his sons for, say, $300 grand.

If he’s “looking out for Nevada” you can bet that the check has cleared.

There. That's better. Somebody take his Red Ryder BB Gun off him before he shoots their eye out, too!

All he has to look out for is Clark County and environs. The rest of the state dislikes him as much as he has always disliked them.

The US senate is the only body in the world that can set out to reduce an eight hundred billion dollar stimulus bill and end up with a nine hundred billion dollar stimulus bill.

The exulted leader of the U.S. House of Representatives, Madame Nancy Pelosi, is the only person, in the world, that thinks the US loses 500 million jobs a month.

That one should take the liars club award of the century. She needs to go back to 1st grade math.

She is a first class nit-wit.
