Not even 2 weeks in office and the "Boy Wonder" has already managed to turn the clock, by a decade, on US-India ties.

Is this debacle being caused by Obama's inexperience or his love for muslims of all shades/stripes?

So in just 2 weeks, Obama has had his peepee slapped by Great Britain, the EU, China, Russia, and now India.

America's standing on the world stage is BACK!

Kashmir elections: Changed public mood, pro-India party wins

By M A Yusufzai

With National Conference having emerged as the largest party in the elections for state Assembly in Jammu and Kashmir (J&K), [India] its leader Omar Abdullah, 38, has become the youngest Chief Minister of the state.

Omar Abdullah is the son former Chief Minister of Kashmir, Dr Faruq Abdullah, and grandson of the legendary Kashmiri leader, the late Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah famously known as Sher-e-Kashmir (Lion of Kashmir).

Notwithstanding the calls by separatist leaders to boycott these elections, the surprising 66% turnout of voters is being interpreted as a rejection of militancy and azadi (freedom) by Kashmiris. Only last year the state witnessed massive anti-India demonstrations over Amarnath land issue. Looking at the strength and ant-India feelings expressed in these rallies, this turnout is has taken everyone by surprise. Indian Prime Minister, Manmohan Singh, has welcomed the large turnout as, “vote for democracy and national integration”.

Expressing his shock, however, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, a hardliner in the umbrella body of anti-India Hurriyat Conference, said that this was something he had “never thought would happen.” He insists that “Elections, redrawing of the boundaries or autonomy are not solutions to the Kashmir problem. The right to self-determination is the only solution.”

Rejecting the general notion that Kashmiris had turned their backs on freedom and had voted for democracy, Geelani said, “People voted for roads, electricity, water and other local issues. They didn’t vote for the resolution of the Kashmir issue. They (the mainstream politicians) promised the people green pastures. Let’s see if they can keep those promises.”

Mirwaise Umar Farooq, a moderate face in the Hurriyat Conference, has, however, conceded, “It is all about lack of rapport...We have to acknowledge that the rural people have genuine problems like pani (water) and bijli (electricity) and Hurriyat is not in a position to address them. But India is always projecting it as a substitute to solution (of Kashmir issue).” Mirwaise also said, “We [Hurriyat leaders] also need to introspect. We will sit together and rethink about our future strategy. But that is possible only after our leaders are released and curbs on our movement lifted.”

Mirwaiz emphatically rejected the idea that the high turnout was a “vote against Azadi”. “Even the people who have voted, clearly distinguished between Azadi and electoral process... It is not a vote against Azadi or for India. It is a vote for the (resolution of) people’s day to day problems.”

Apart from the claims of Indian Government and separatist leaders, ground reality in Kashmir is that the general public is tired of unending cycle of violence, curfews and lack of basic amenities and being sandwiched by the militants on one hand and Indian military on the other. They do not only face humiliation by the Indian army and violation of human rights, they also face violence of the militants and crimes like having their houses trespassed and being asked, at gun point to feed the trespassers claiming to be “mujahidin”.. Added with this is the uncertain political situation in Pakistan with which majority of Kashmiris has been dreaming to go with since 1947. In this scenario it will now depend on how effectively the new Government of J&K is able to articulate the grievances of Kashmiris and on whether the Indian Government takes advantage of the changed public mood and give them the autonomy, pro-India groups have been demanding.

“It’s possible that at this time there are elements, -perhaps in the administration who are harking back to the pre-2000 era.”

Incidentally, this was the crux of former VP Cheney’s criticism of Zero’s anti-terror policies.

I can imagine The One roaming around the White House wondering how it could happen that the real world doesn't succomb to his brilliant oratory.

I can also see the rest of the world leaders laughing their butts off at how naive this bozo is.

Why the NSA’s backtracking doesn’t wash [Indian diplomat told Obama was ‘barking up the wrong tree’]

4 Feb., 2009

http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/2178380/posts

There are a few takers for the clarification issued by the Prime Minister’s Office on Wednesday regarding National Security Advisor M K Narayanan’s interview to the television channel CNN-IBN. The PMO said Narayanan’s quotes regarding US President Barack Obama and former Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf were taken out of context.

But, the statements are on tape and are obviously undeniable. The ‘context’ is right there in the question and in his answer. Therefore, Narayanan’s backtracking seems to be the result of ‘pressure’ from the ministry of external affairs.

Narayanan statement about Obama had astonished the diplomatic community. The NSA had said that Obama was barking up the wrong tree by attempting to link Afghanistan and Kashmir.

“When you say someone is ‘barking up a wrong tree’ that amounts to telling him that you are a silly fellow. How can a senior Indian officer — that too the NSA — talk about the US President like this?” asked a former diplomat.

“There is something rotten about the governance of this administration,” Satish Chandra, former deputy national security advisor, told rediff.com.

“Matters of foreign policy should be left to the ministers in the MEA and career diplomats. Second why should such a top officer of the level of NSA speak to media in this fashion? J N Dixit and Brajesh Mishra, his predecessors, never spoke out of turn and never revealed more than necessary. External Affairs Minister Pranab Mukherjee is an astute and organised leader. There is no need to contradict him on such an important issue.”

Not only diplomats even a large section of senior Congressmen are aghast by Narayanan’s statements.

According to senior Congress leaders, Narayanan has the political backing of Prime Minister Manmohan Singh . After the Mumbai terror attacks , many Congressmen wanted Narayanan to own up the responsibility for the complete failure of physical security of the coastal borders. (Being NSA he supervises the intelligence set up and security matters).

But he remained untouched even as Home Minister Shivraj Patil had to leave in disgrace.

The Congress leaders insisted that party President Sonia Gandhi was also upset over the security issue and the failure of the office of the NSA, but these claims not be verified independently. However, after the Mumbai attack, Narayanan had to face a tough time.

However, Narayanan’s statements on foreign policy have always been resented by the MEA. Mukherjee while disagreeing with Narayanan categorically said that Pakistan government has not officially reverted back to India after receiving the dossier of on the Mumbai attacks. His statement was a snub to Narayanan who told CNN-IBN in the controversial interview that Pakistan reverted back asking “a number of questions.”

Narayanan’s statement, Mukherjee’s snub to him and Narayanan’s backtracking has harmed India’s image, says Chandra.

“The Indian State is not able to present a coherent picture on the Mumbai attacks. The Pakistanis will look for differences and exploit it. When people in high positions are not on the same page on such an important issues it doesn’t reflect well on the government or the country.”

Chandra regrets that in case of Narayanan these kinds of statements keep coming from him. “It does not help him or the government. The confusion shows India in poor light and proves that government is not able to put its act together on the post-Mumbai attack strategy. If government is in control of things such things will never happen.”

US president was in danger of dredging up outdated Clinton-era strategies. ...."It's possible that at this time there are elements, - perhaps in the administration who are harking back to the pre-2000 era."

Understandable, considering this administration is almost exclusively composed of Clinton admin. retreads.

Love for Muslims.

India knows it, the Mossad has breifed ALL its allies on Obamas pre election conversations and contact with his Islamofascit buddies, as well as the fund raising connections.

Obamja is sick. He will try and land a US MArine force in the Kashmire to support the Muslims, give them highly restrictive Rules of Engagement, little ammo, no tanks, and get thousands of them killed for nothing.Thats military intervention the "liberal" way.
