A RESOLUTION affirming States rights based on Jeffersonian principles.
Whereas the Constitution of the State of New Hampshire, Part 1, Article 7 declares that the people of this State have the sole and exclusive right of governing themselves as a free, sovereign, and independent State; and do, and forever hereafter shall, exercise and enjoy every power, jurisdiction, and right, pertaining thereto, which is not, or may not hereafter be, by them expressly delegated to the United States of America in congress assembled; and
Whereas the Constitution of the State of New Hampshire, Part 2, Article 1 declares that the people inhabiting the territory formerly called the province of New Hampshire, do hereby solemnly and mutually agree with each other, to form themselves into a free, sovereign and independent body-politic, or State, by the name of The State of New Hampshire; and
Whereas the State of New Hampshire when ratifying the Constitution for the United States of America recommended as a change, First That it be Explicitly declared that all Powers not expressly & particularly Delegated by the aforesaid are reserved to the several States to be, by them Exercised; and
Whereas the other States that included recommendations, to wit Massachusetts, New York, North Carolina, Rhode Island and Virginia, included an identical or similar recommended change; and
Whereas these recommended changes were incorporated as the ninth amendment, the enumeration in the Constitution, of certain rights, shall not be construed to deny or disparage others retained by the people, and the tenth amendment, the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people, to the Constitution for the United States of America; now, therefore, be it

At least our soldiers would make it down there. Yours would be so dumb that they'd try to come north and end up falling into the Atlantic Ocean . . . that is, if they could make it by the assorted piles of junk rusting in their front yards, or if they could pry themselves off their sisters or their cousins for the duration.

Forget the civil war crap. Modern states have been seceding since the 1980s. Our Federal "government" has failed and we have rights as state citizens. NH has the ability to go it alone and other states may follow. It won't be fun economically, but politically it may be necessary.
Oh, and forget the Fort Sumter thing. Think Gandhi and Havel.

But the declaration of independance only talks about “altering or abolishing” government. It is not specific to revolution. Both a secession and revolution are means to accomplishing this end. So I don’t see how the distinction is relevant.
Surely you are not arguing that people have the right to wage war to overthrow the government, but not to peacefully secede without bloodshed.

I don't think this is correct. Americans are dumb and distracted today. Who will die to keep Texas or New Hampshire in the Union? Not the American Idol crown who constantly criticizes the Iraq war and dreams of Whirled Peas! Besides, most of the military sees it our way and... we own all of the guns!!!

The very definition of an "inalienable" right is one that cannot be given up by contract.
I live in NH, too. I would ABSOLUTELY want to secede from the union if the “union” was to nullify itself by overstepping its constitutionally granted authority.
NH has degenerated from the statistical freest state in the union to a “blue” state - moving faster and steadier toward the Massachusetts ideology of bigger government, higher taxes, more unjustifiable spending - all resulting in a mass exodus of native NH-erites replaced by the transplants who left their oppressive states for one with more freedom and prosperity only to vote in the manner that brought their own states the messes they moved to NH to flee.
Democrats are stupid, each and every one of them. They deserve what they get...but WE DON’T.
Again, I live in NH and would vote to secede from the union if it ever came up on a ballot. This “union” isn’t the nation it once was and promised to be...it’s a behemoth of regrettable proportions that threatens to swallow us up in depravity and destruction.
