'My mother's fame drove me to drug addiction,' says daughter of campaigner Erin Brockovich By MAIL FOREIGN SERVICE 03rd February 2009

The teenage daughter of environmental campaigner Erin Brockovich has said she blames her mother's fame for her ongoing battle with drugs.

Elizabeth Brockovich said she began experimenting with drugs while her mother was out campaigning or promoting the hit Hollywood film.

Elizabeth said she first smoked marijuana when she was 12 and was hooked on cocaine and prescription pills by the time she was 14.

A unsupervised 12 year old starts using drugs while her mother is out running around trying to remain “famous”... has a lot to do with her mother, she was trying to get her attention.

So it wasn’t your mother being a skanky ho who left you with a biker she just met to go chase cancer victim interviews?

I don’t remember Wayne Gretzky, Michael Jordan and Joe Montana’s sons going into a drug addiction because of their Dad’s fame. Grow a spine, kid.

'My mother's fame drove me to drug addiction,' says daughter of campaigner Erin Brockovich...

Had she said that her mother's stupidity drove her to drug addiction, I'd have believed it.

Not excusing the daughter’s actions here. She ultimately is the one who made the choice to use drugs and bears the most responsibility for her current state.

Still, *IF* her version of events is correct (i.e. no real parental presence), I don’t think it should be too surprising she ended up this way.

Parents need to be, well, parents. Kids don’t always exercise the best judgment, and need guidance and someone to set limits. I’ve known - probably we’ve all known - a kid in the neighborhood that ran wild because the parents didn’t set boundaries or lay down the law.

Again, not saying the mother (Erin Brockovich) was absent in this case, or that her alleged absence would in anyway justify the daughter’s behavior. Just saying there could be more than one factor at play here.

The fruit doesn’t fall far from the tree. Brockovich is out there pimping for attorneys trying to sue for asbestos related pulmonary disease. While there may indeed be cases of harm from asbestos (especially from mining in the past), it is a very benign mineral whose benefits to mankind outweigh its risks. When asbestos lawsuits fade away, I expect the lawyers going for spun fiberglass used in home insulation.

While channel surfing one night I had the unfortunate experience of seeing that smug Hollyweird liberal Julia Roberts portray Erin Brockovich. After two minutes of viewing and hearing the “F word” about a dozen times, it made me want to start using drugs (and I’m not 12).

Screwed up parents can lead to screwed up kids.

Dude!
Sheesh!
It was the intentional attempt of a quasi-government/ regulated organisation to cover-up known toxic poisoning of the local water supply.
And the little darling is a media invented twit.
Poor little girl... Mommy was a real hero and role model, and she fell short under intense media scrutiny.

Let that be a warning to all parents!sarcasm//
OTOH...I know plenty of seemingly normal, perfect parents who have yet to have their 15 minutes of fame, and still their kids managed to screw up their lives with sex, drugs and crime.

I was hooked on drugs. By the time I became sober I had run out of excuses and other people to blame.

The teenage daughter of environmental campaigner Erin Brockovich has said she blames her mother's fame for her ongoing battle with drugs...more likely her mother's pursuit of fame, and the accompanying neglect of her daughter...dare not criticize a saint like Erin directly though.....
