Star Trek Actor Who Paid for Three Abortions Now Condemns "Right to Choose...to Kill Her Baby"

LOS ANGELES, February 2, 2009 (LifeSiteNews.com) - Actor Gary Graham knew that by writing about his personal experience and rejection of abortion, he would be incurring the ire of not a few among the Hollywood elite.

Yet a blog column posted last Tuesday by the seasoned actor, known most recently for his roles as Ambassador Soval in the TV series "Star Trek: Enterprise" and Capt. Ingles on "J.A.G.", took an unflinching look at truths almost entirely ignored by those in the Hollywood establishment.

"I’m going to say what millions know in the front of their brains, and many, many more millions know in the depths of their hearts … but won’t allow themselves to think it, much less feel it," wrote Graham.  "And believe me, I know I’ll be hated for saying it, I’ll be hated by people who don’t know me, have never worked with me, have never golfed with me, had a drink with me.

"I’m going to say it anyway: Abortion is murder."

Graham described the irresponsibility of his youth that made abortion the convenient option for a drug-fueled, “free-love” lifestyle. He confessed to having paid for multiple abortions for girlfriends, observing that abortion “sure took the pressure off of me, a guy, interested in sex who had been raised in the era of, ‘Hey, you get a girl pregnant, you marry her!’” But then, he says, a "spiritual awakening" brought him to a "tearful epiphany of what it meant for a man to be with a woman, what sex was really designed for by our Creator and … what abortion is.

"I truly wish that I had had this conviction way back when…when I was only concerned about my selfish convenience of the day," wrote Graham.  "But I didn’t want to know, I didn’t want to think about it. It was inconvenient to think about it."

He noted that the widespread acceptance of abortion "says volumes of how our entire culture has been coarsened," and "How life itself has been cheapened.”

"We are told to have sex any time we feel the urge.  Condoms are handed out in grade schools. Promiscuity is not only condoned, it’s tacitly encouraged ... But if you should get pregnant and it’s just not a ‘convenient’ time for you, don’t worry, there are Family Planning Services. ... That inconvenient fetus can be surgically ripped from its uterine moorings, ground up and tossed into the trash like so much garbage.

"Problem solved, and the mother can resume her egocentric lifestyle.  But the scars on that woman’s soul will never quite heal. I’m a man, but I’ve got them on mine."

Responding to those who call for abortion to be "legal but rare," Graham asked, "Why rare?

"What’s wrong with abortion, that you think it should be a rare occurrence? I’ve had moles removed from my skin. Doctors don’t tell us that a mole removal should be rare. So what’s with this ‘rare’ business? Or is it a tacit agreement that abortion … is plain wrong?

"Try this exercise: Every time you hear someone use the phrase '…a woman’s right to choose…' mentally complete the phrase with the following words – '…to kill her baby.'  That’s what the argument’s about.  A woman’s right to kill her baby."

You’re right. I apologize. I have just watched the vid, and lost all hope in doing so.

Again, I’m sorry.

I just watched the vid, and am attempting to apologize to all those I questioned.

Again, I’m sorry.

it’s not a problem. it’s a common thing. conservatives are so desperate for a leader, they latch onto perceived leaders, and will not tolerate any dissent to them, until they are let down time after time.

but it’s a bit ridiculous really, because how much did you honestly know about that guy before committing so strongly?

don’t lose all hope.

people MUST start getting involved in primary campaigns

No offense taken, here, papasmurf. The playing field is morphing by the minute out there, and it is hard to keep up. Don’t sweat it.

Yes I understood that. Thank you.
From all that I’ve read regarding Michael Steele and from some of his own speeches, I believe that man is conservative. I do not agree that we should ‘reach’ out to these people, however, I’m not ready to condemn him for this.

You’ll find that liberals like to hide what they know to be immoral behind the idea of groups doing it (”others, not me”). Like, “we voted on it, so it’s OK”.

Yeah, would it be OK for 6 men and 4 women to vote on whether the women should be raped?
I guess if they lose the vote, they can always vote on it again in 2 years!

It’s becoming clearer to me by the day that the ONLY hope for the GOP is with Sarah Palin and Bobby Jindal.

For what it’s worth, I think the best course for the GOP might be for conservatives to just leave and let the GOP “go the way of the Whigs.” The Whig party started splintering over slavery in the early 1850s and the Kansas-Nebraska Act of 1854 was pretty much the end. Abraham Lincoln and others formed the Republican Party that same year and within six years they had elected him president.

Ectopic pregnancy, in the rare circumstance that it occurs, would be a justification for an abortion because the child would literally be a threat to the mother as it grows outside the uterus. Even then, it is not the rule that an ectopic pregnancy means an abortion is required. In some cases it merely means that a Ceasarian section is required to deliver a healthy and normal baby. As with any serious medical decision, a second opinion is required because ectopic pregnancies are frequently misdiagnosed.

Why?

All we have seen the last few years are countless attempts by the GOP to show that “we can be just like the Democrats.” Having people with an “R” after their name is WORTHLESS if the policies don’t change.

I agree. The GOP deserves to die. It has suffered long enough, and caused it’s family much pain.

OT: I believe many of us vetted Steele as a possible running mate for FRed, had he won, and this didn’t come up. I’ve sent him a not so nice email.

Crumbs! I never realized Soval was Sykes!

That's funny! I always notice how many actors bounce around tv series and even in alien makeup, though it may have taken me a while to place them, I knew they were familiar.

I heard people saying much the same thing back in the mid seventies, and five years later we got Reagan.

I agree with you that our political salvation is tied to Sarah Palin and Bobbie Jindal. I have to part with you about Conservatives bolting the Grand Old Party and starting a 3rd party. I think that is all but certain political suicide. We will in essence splitting the center-right vote, while the d-Rat party remains largely intact. That translates to permanent minority status in the executive and legislative branches. No, this is the time for bold colors not pastels, but within a center-right framework that unites all of us behind a Palin/Jindal or Jindal/Palin ticket. JMHO.

He seems to be quite aware just how out of touch Hollyweird is with the rest of the country.

Hollywood needs its legs chopped out from under it. Support for the few pro-life, pro-America, conservative works to come out of there, while ignoring the rest of the filth, is the best way to do it.

Along with people like Graham finally speaking out.

Just to clarify, I said that the best route MIGHT be for conservatives to leave. I agree with staying united FOR NOW, but if we can’t make any progress in 2010 it’s pretty much over.
